74th CISM General Assembly and Congress – Ho Chi Minh City (VIE) – Day 3 & 4 – Continental Meetings, Congress and Continental Football Tournament

HO CHI MINH CITY (VIE) – For the third day of the 74th CISM Congress and General Assembly, the continental meetings took place in the morning. During those meetings, the delegates discussed the different issues related to their continent but also took some decisions regarding the compositions of the continents with the elections:

• Général Aboubacar Biro Congé (GUI) was re-elected as BoD Member while Brigadier General Omar Guerriche (ALG) and Brigadier General Jean Baptiste Ngiruwonsanga (RWA) were elected as BoD Members

• Colonel Wang Yijiang (CHN) was elected as Vice-President Asia

• Colonel Leonardo Olivieira (BRA) was elected as Vice-President Americas while Major General Frances Allen (CAN) was re-elected as BoD member and Lieutenant-Colonel Rodrigo Verônimo Lameira (BRA) was elected as BoD Member

The day ended with a football tournament and the qualifying games between the CISM continents, the local Organizing Committee and the CISM HQ.

The first day of the Congress started yesterday morning with the welcome speeches of the CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo and the Chief of Delegation of Vietnam to CISM Senior Colonel Tran Dang Thanh.

After the allocution of the CISM Honorary President Major-General Dr. Gianni Gola, the first part of the Congress was dedicated to the Institutional Partners of CISM with the key-note addresses of Mr. Fabio Azevedo, FIVB General Director, Mr. Stefan Marginean, representative of the International Judo Federation and Dr. John Grubbström, FAI Honorary President.

After a first break, the CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo took the floor for the CISM President Communication and was followed by the Report of the CISM Secretary General Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, who updated the assembly with the activities of the CISM Headquarters.

The four Vice-Presidents in attendance of the four continents (Colonel David Kabré for Africa, Colonel Walter Jander for America, Brigadier-General Merh Ali Barancheshmesh for Asia and Colonel Dirk Schwede for Europe), had also the opportunity to present their reports of activities related to their continental organization. The Colonel B.A.M. Walter Van Velthoven also had the opportunity to present the CISM Finances and Budget report to the Assembly and the Budget 2017, 2018 and 2019 while Brigadier-General Allen gave an overview of the inputs of the CISM Finances and Budget Commission and presented the report of the working group on the promotion of gender equity in CISM. The report of the CISM Regulations Commission was introduced by Colonel Steven Rosso while the new CISM strategic and business plan were presented by Colonel Dirk Schwede and Lieutenant-Colonel Jan van den Dool.

Finally, the first day of the Congress ended with the presentation of the German Delegation to CISM about the organization of the 4th CISM World Winter Games 2021 in Berchtesgaden.

The highlight of the day was the awarding Ceremony of the CISM Athlete of the Year 2018 Award to Sergeant Rafael Kamalov (RUS) and Able Seaman Yvette Yong (CAN) who, For the first time in the CISM History, won the trophy!

The continental football tournament came to an end with a victory of the local Organizing Committee which was won by the Asian Continent.

The last day of the Congress will take place today, April 27!
