31st WMC Wrestling – Skopje (MKD) – Day 2

 

 

SKOPJE (MKD) – On September 21, the second day of the 31st World Military Wrestling Championship started with the first competitions. The preliminary competitions took place in the morning for the following categories: Men’s Freestyle 57kg, Men’s Freestyle 61kg, Men’s Freestyle 65kg, Men’s Freestyle 70kg, Women’s Freestyle 48kg, Women’s Freestyle 53kg, Women’s Freestyle 55kg and Women’s Freestyle 58kg.

 

 

The Opening Ceremony took place before the finals of the day. Emil Dimitriev, Prime Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Jolevski, Minister of Defense, Lt-Gen Metodija Velichkovski, Chief of General Staff of the Army of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Elizabeta Chupovska Ristova, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and President of the Organizing Committee and Colonel Nelson de Jesus Lopes attended the Ceremony who ended up with modern and traditional dance performance.

In his speech, the CISM OCR, Colonel Nelson de Jesus Lopes, highlighted the importance of sport within the Armed Forces but also the role of CISM in the promotion of Peace and Friendship through Sport. He also underlined the next big CISM events: the 2nd CISM World Football Cup in Oman (January 2017) and the 3rd CISM World Winter Games in Sochi (February 2017).

 

 

In the women’s freestyle 48kg category, Emilia Vuc Alina (ROU) won the gold medal while Zhou Chengcheng (CHN) is ranked second and Susana Paula de Almeida took the third place. Liao Rong (CHN) took the first place of the women’s freestyle 53kg event ahead of Iwona Matkowska (POL) and Jaqueline Schellin (GER). Thanks to Li Hui, China won another gold medal in the women’s freestyle 55kg. The Polish athlete Katazyna Krawczyk is on the second step of the podium and Nadezya Shushko (BLR) is ranked third. In the last female competition of the day (-58kg), Feng Huimin, from China, once again, defeated the silver medalist Katsiaryna Hanchar (BLR) and the bronze medalist Maja Dejkoska, who won the first medal for the host country, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

 

 

In the men’s freestyle competition, Hak Jin Jong, from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, won the 57kg category just ahead of Ji Hoon Yun from South Korea. Andrii Yatsenko (UKR) and Azamat Tuskaev (RUS) finished on the third step of the podium. In the men’s freestyle 61kg event, Nachyn Kuular (RUS) dominated the competition while Vasil Shuptar (UKR) won the silver medal and Zhenguang Tian (CHN) and Yeldos Abikenov (KAZ) finished on the third step of the podium.

 

 

In the 65kg category, the Azeri wrestler Aghahuseyn Mustafayev won the competition ahead of Kuk Gwang Kim (PRK), silver medalist, and Rajneesh (IND) and Gamlet Ramonov (RUS), both bronze medalists. Finally, Russia won its first medal of the WMC with the victory Magomed Kurbanliev in the 70kg category. Joshgun Azimov (AZE) is ranked second. Andrei Karapach (BLR) and Farzad Kolivand (IRI) are both on the third step of the podium.
