Closing Ceremony of the 9th Defence Services Games in Sri Lanka

 

 

SRI LANKA – On August 22nd 2016, the 9th Defence Services Games 2016 (DSG) concluded with a colourful ceremony at the Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium today. This marked the apex of the five months of competitive sportsmanship among tri-services which showcased their talents against each other.

HE the President Maithripala Sirisena graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardane, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Chief of Defence Staff  Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarathne and the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala, Directors, officers and all ranks from the three forces also attended the Closing Ceremony.

 

 

And the Sri Lanka Army’s athletes performed very well at those 9th DSG - 2016 with 120 Gold medals, 133 Silver and 127 Bronze medals, while Sri Lanka Navy (95 Gold, 81 Silver and 120 Bronze) and Sri Lanka Air Force (84 Gold, 78 Silver, and 113 Bronze) respectively secured the 2nd and 3rd places.

 

 

The next Defence Services Games will be hosted by the Sri Lanka Army in 2018.  Symbolizing the handing over of the reigns, the DSG Flag was ceremonially handed over to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala.

 

 

The 9th DSG concluded with the declaration of “Closing of the 9th Defence Services Games” by the chief guest HE the President.
