74th CISM General Assembly and Congress – Ho Chi Minh City (VIE) – Day 6 – General Assembly and Closing Ceremony

 

 

 

HO CHI MINH CITY (VIE) –The 74th CISM General Assembly and Congress came to an end yesterday, April 28, with the General Assembly that started with the welcome address of the CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo and the presentation of all the new members and officials of our institution.

 

 

The delegates were then asked to vote the decision files, the applications of Guyana and Mozambique and the application of the New Treasurer General Lieutenant-Colonel Marc De Wagter in replacement of Colonel Walter Van Velthoven who is leaving after several years of services.

 

 

All the decisions files were approved, and Guyana and Mozambique were accepted by the General Assembly and joined the CISM Family that now counts 140 Member Nations while Lieutenant-Colonel Marc De Wagter was elected by the General Assembly as the new CISM Treasurer General!

 

 

The Kenyan Delegation to CISM also took the opportunity of this event to give an overview of the 75th CISM General and Congress that will take place in Kenya in 2020.

The Closing started right after the closing of the congress and the Closing address of the CISM President.

During the Closing Ceremony, the CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo awarded the CISM Order of Merit Medals to the following persons who rendered exceptional service to the cause of CISM: Brigadier-General Merh Ali Barancheshmesh – Grand Officer; Colonel Walter Van Velthoven - Grand Officer; Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Borghino - Grand Officer; Colonel Walter Jander – Officer; Colonel Nelson J. Lopes – Officer; Colonel-Major Mokhtar Marsou – Officer; Navy Captain Raja Ansar Mahmood – Officer; Lieutenant-Colonel Harri Koski - Grand knight; 1st Lieutenant Saeed Khalifa Mohamed Al Kamdah – Knight.

 

 

Senior Colonel Tran Dang Thanh, Chief of Delegation of Viet Nam to CISM took the floor for his closing speech, followed by the CISM President Speech, Colonel Hervé Piccirillo: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the CISM Vietnamese delegation and its Chief of delegation, Colonel-in-Chief Tran Dang Thanh. Vietnamese armed forces and the city of Ho Chi Minh for their unwavering support and hard work in organizing this 74th General Assembly and Congress of CISM 2019”. He also added: “This 74th GA and Congress was the affirmation of the cohesion uniting the family of CISM, gathered in Ho Chi Minh under our motto "Friendship by Sport"! But, as you will surely have understood through the various interventions that punctuated the program of our Congress, CISM is at a crossroads. It is now up to us to make the right decisions to ensure the sustainability of our organization and to apply them with utmost seriousness”.

 

 

As a symbol, the CISM Flag was handed over by Senior Colonel Tran Dang Thanh, Chief of Delegation of Viet Nam, to Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed, Chief of Delegation of Kenya as Kenya will host the next edition of the CISM General Assembly and Congress in 2020.

The CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo then officially declared the 74th CISM General Assembly and Congress closed.

 

 

In the evening, just after the traditional Gift Exchange, all the delegates attended the Closing Banquet offered by the Viet Nam Delegation to CISM!
