CISM meets International Olympic Academy

ANCIENT OLYMPIA (GRE) – Last week, in the mythical city of Olympia where the Olympic Games were born, a meeting was held between the International Olympic Academy (IOA), known as the international academic centre for Olympic studies, education and research of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the Academie du Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM Academy / ACISM), the CISM scientific and pedagogical study center.

The meeting was lead by the President of the IOA, Mr. Isidoros Kouvelos and by the Chief of Greek Delegation to CISM and Member of CISM Board of Directors, Navy Captain Spyridon Andriopoulos, on behalf of CISM Secretary General. On the IOA’s side, Mr. Dionyssis Gangas, President’s assistant, and Emmanuel Kolympadis, Greek Olympic Committee Secretary General also attended the meeting while CISM was also represented by Colone Luiz Fernando Medeiros Nóbrega, CISM Sports Director, Lieutenant-Colonel Rafael Soares Pinheiro da Cunha, ACISM Manager, and Sergeant Sofia Andriopoulos, Greek Delegation assistant.

During this meeting, several points of mutual interest were identified among the institutions, with regard to the promotion of Education and Research, in areas such as Olympism and Sport & Peace, among others. The partnership actions would target a broad audience of intellectuals, scientists, athletes, sports administrators, educators and students, military and civilians, in a spirit of friendship and cooperation, meeting the CISM motto "Friendship through Sport" !

In this way, the foundations for the future signing of the Protocol of Academic Understanding between the parties have been laid, from which CISM can expand the potential of the IOA to the delegations of its 140 member nations, as well as to the future organization of the CISM International Symposium, on the ground where the heart of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the Olympic Games of the modern era, rests.
