2nd WMC Beach Volleyball – Rio de Janeiro (BRA) – Final Day
RIO DE JANEIRO (BRA) – With the return of the sunshine, the finals of the 2nd WMC Beach Volleyball 2017 took place in the Olympic Park of Rio de Janeiro!
With two 100% Brazilian clashes scheduled for the gold medal games, scores of spectators came to support their athletes during this final day.
In the women’s competition, the bronze medal game between the two Chinese team was cancelled, as the duo Bai / Zhao had to withdraw for health reasons. Shao and Liu therefore grabbed the bronze medal.
The men’s bronze medal game started at 10.00 p.m. (local time). The Brazilian pair composed of Evandro, also known as “best serve in the world”, and André was facing Dollinger and Walkenhorst from Germany. Right from the beginning, Evandro’s serve allowed Brazil to take quickly the lead and guide his team to the bronze medal! A deserved win for the Brazilian team (2/0).
The men's final between Saymon / Álvaro and Guto / Vitor was very intense and tight in the volleyball arena. Each point was extremely disputed, a real beach volleyball lesson. After losing the first set, Saymon and Álvaro reversed the condition to finally win the game two sets to one, despite an apparent injury of Saymon in the middle of the first set. Therefore, the silver medal was awarded to Guto and Vitor who also achieved a brilliant tournament.
In the women’s final, Larissa / Ana Patricia were facing Ágatha / Eduarda for the gold medal. Playing quite intelligently, Ágatha and Eduarda took the lead right from the start. Despite some bursts of courage during the rest of the game, Larissa and Patricia could not do anything, leaving the gold medal to Ágatha and Eduarda.
The finals were followed by the awarding ceremony in the afternoon on the courts of the second WMC Beach Volleyball. The Officials arrived on the sands of the arena to award the prizes to the athletes who gave their best on the field including the director of the Military Sports Department, Vice Admiral Paulo Martino Zuccaro - the Commander of the CCFEx and president of the Army Sports Commission (CDE), Brigadier General Jorge Antonio Smicelato - the President of the CISM Volleyball Committee, Colonel José Pinheiro.
Apart from those collective achievements, two players were also awarded with the MVP Title: Alvaro was the best male athlete of the tournament while Eduarda won the female MVP Title!
The Closing Ceremony was held in the evening in presence of the following authorities: Several high authorities attended the event: Colonel David Kabré, Official CISM Representative and Member of the BoD - Colonel José Pinheiro, CISM Beach Volleyball PCSC and Member of the CISM HQ - Colonel Walter Jander, CISM VP America and his assistant WO Jorge Junqueira – Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Khalil Alzeben, Palestinian Ambassador in Brazil - Vice Admiral Paulo Martino Zuccaro, Director of the Department of Military Sports and other local and international authorities.
Thank you Brazil for this wonderful organization and we hope to find some potential host interested in the organization of this great event in 2018!
