1st WMC Indoor Climbing- Moscow (RUS) - Day 2

 

 

MOSCOW (RUS) – Yesterday, November 29, the opening ceremony of the 1st World Military Indoor Climbing Championship was held in the indoor athletic-football complex of the CSKA. The Opening Ceremony was held in presence of Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Borghino, CISM Board of Directors Member, Sports Commission President and Official CISM Representative for this event; Colonel Dirk Schwede, CISM VP Europe and Member of the Board of Directors; State Secretary - Deputy Defence Minister General Nikolai Pankov; Colonel Oleg Botsman, Chief of Delegation of Russia to CISM; Colonel Artem Gromov, PCSC Climbing; Captain Rudi Fell, PCSC Football; Lieutenant-Colonel Roman Kudryavtsev, Deputy Chief of CSKA; Dmitry Anatolyevich Bychkov, President of the Russian Climbing Federation; Evgeniy Levin, Jury President; Colonel Svetlana Ishmouratova, a Russian biathlete who won the gold in the women's 15 km individual at the 2006 Winter Olympics; Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation and Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling; Yury Fedkin, Olympic champion in air rifle shooting; Olympic volleyball champion, Marina Kumish, member of the CSKA sports veterans council; the Chiefs of Mission of the Participating Nations as well as local and international high authorities and fans.

 

 

The start of the 1st WMC Climbing was given by the State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General Nikolai Pankov, who read the welcome address of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation General Sergei Shoigu.

“I would like to thank the organizers and participants of the 1st WMC Climbing which will provide them an opportunity to exchange experience, promote the development of trust and mutual understanding, and strengthen military cooperation between states. Over the next four days, climbers from seven countries will demonstrate strength, agility, perseverance and the will to win. I am sure that we will witness bright fights, tense struggle and deserved victories. I wish the participants of the championship good luck, and the spectators - unforgettable impressions”, declared General Pankov on behalf of General Sergei Shoigu.

 

 

“It is a great honor for me to greet everyone here in Moscow on behalf of CISM. Representatives of the Russian delegation to CISM and all those involved in the organization did everything possible to make this unforgettable event happen. I know that today's result is long hours and even days of work”, said Lieutenant Colonel Walter Borghino. “Today, the real importance of military sports is associated with the growing importance of international military cooperation to strengthen peace and security throughout the world. One of the main tasks of our armed forces today is interaction in multinational missions. From my point of view, your presence here testifies to our commitment to improve the capabilities and physical fitness of our servicemen through military sports competitions”.

Apart from the Opening Ceremony, the second day of competition of the event was also held yesterday in Moscow at the climbing gym of CSKA with the speed record format events.

 

 

And the Russian athletes were really impressive with two gold and one silver medal.

In the women's competition, the final of the event featured two members of the national team of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the World and European champion in speed Anna Tsyganova and the World Champion All-around Elena Krasovskaya. Anna Tysganova won a deserved gold medal as she was the fastest in the final and finished the race with 0,68 seconds lead ahead of her teammate Krasovskaya. In the fight for the bronze award, Laura Stockler from Austria turned out to be the best.

 

 

In the men's final, Alexander Shikov, bronze medalist of the World Championship in speed defeated the Kazakh Amir Maimuratov with a 0.08 seconds lead. In the duel for the bronze medal, the Kazakh climber Roman Kostyukov took the third place with a 0.31 seconds lead ahead of the Russian Ruslan Fayzullin.

Today, November 30, qualifying competitions for the bouldering men and women’s events will be held.
