49th WMC Swimming – Rio de Janeiro (BRA) - Update – Competition Day 2

 

 

Eight new CISM World Record broken during the second competition day!

 

RIO DE JANEIRO (BRA) – After the preliminary heats held in the morning of December 13, the finals of the second day of competition of the 49th WMC Swimming took place in the afternoon in the Olympic Swimming Pool of the Aeronautics Sports Commission (CDA) in Rio de Janeiro with, once again, amazing performances from the CISM athletes who broke not less than eight CISM World Records!

 

 

The following CISM World Records were broken: Sergeant Svetlana Chimrova (RUS) - 100 m Butterfly Female (57.76); Sergeant Henrique De Souza Martins (BRA) - 100 m Butterfly Male (51.64); Private Jérémy Desplanches (SUI) - 200 m Medley Male (1:57.85); Sergeant Jhennifer Alves Conceição (BRA) - 50 m Breaststroke Female (30.58); Sergeant João Luiz Gomes Junior (BRA) - 50 m Breaststroke Male (26.80); Sergeant Pedro Henrique Silva Spajari, Sergeant Gabriel Silva Santos, Sergeant Manuellla Lyrio and Sergeant Larissa Martins Oliveira (BRA) - 4 x 100 m Mixed Freestyle Relay (3:26:09); Private Guilherme P Da Costa (BRA) - 1500 m Freestyle Male (15:03.35); Sergeant Roman Larin, Sergeant Anton Chupkov, Sergeant Svetlana Chimrova and WO Viktoriia Andreeva (RUS) - 4 x 100 m Mixed Medley Relay (3:47:83).

 

 

Brazil and Russia once again achieved incredible results as Brazil won nine more medals yesterday and Russia 7!

After winning the 100m Butterfly Women, Svetlana Chimrova also won the 200m Butterfly women ahead of Daiene Marçal Dias (BRA) and Svenja Stoffel (SUI), setting up a new CISM World Record!

Sergeant Henrique de Souza Martins who won the 100m Butterfly Male event in 51.64 ahead of the silver and bronze medalist Daniil Pakhomov (RUS) and Andrii Khloptsov (UKR) also broke the world military record.

 

 

In the 200m Medley Women, Russia won another gold medal with the title of Viktoriia Andreeva while Gabrielle Roncatto (BRA) took silver and Paula Zukowska finished on the third step of the podium. The Swiss swimmer Jérémy Desplanches achieved an incredible result with a gold medal and a new world record in the 200m Medley Men with a three and four seconds lead on the silver and bronze medalists Semen Makovich (RUS) and Raphael Stacchiotti (LUX).

The local swimmer Jhennifer Conceição, from the Aeronautics, broke the 50m Breaststroke CISM World Record in 30.58 and became the new military world champion while Mariia Liver (UKR) and Maria Temnikova (RUS) completed the podium!

 

 

Navy Sergeant João Gomes also brought a gold medal to Brazil with a title and CISM World Record in the 50m Breaststroke (26.80) ahead of his teammate Pedro Cardona, silver medalist. Oleg Kostin from Russia took bronze.

Another World Record was set by the Brazilian Soldier Guilherme Costa in the 1500m Freestyle (15:03.35) who was faster than the French Marc-Antoine Olivier was while Sergii Frolov (RUS) grabbed the bronze medal

 

 

The Brazilian swimmers (Spajari, Silva Santos, Lyrio, Martins Oliveira) won the 4X100m Freestyle Mixed Relay ahead of France and Poland but they were left with the silver medal in the 4X100m Medley Mixed Relay won by the Russian team (Larin, Chupkov, Chimrova and Andreeva) while Poland was ranked third.

Finally, as part of December 12 results, Brazil was confirmed by the appeal jury as the winner of the 4x200m Freestyle Relay Male! Congratulation to Lopes Melo, De Deus, Silva Spajari and Da Costa!
