46th WMC Fencing - Nancy (FRA) - Day 2

 

 

NANCY (FRA) – The first competition of the 46th WMC Fencing were held yesterday in Nancy, France, with the Foil women’s event, the Épée men’s event and the Sabre men’s event.

In the Foil women competition, Inna Deriglazova, Olympic champion in individual foil at the Rio 2016 OG and gold medallist at the 6th CISM World Summer Games in Mungyeong (KOR), grabbed a new gold medal as she defeated the Polish Hanna Lyczbinska in the gold medal game. Two other Russian, Yana Alborova and Adeline Zagidullina confirmer the Russian domination on the event by standing on the third place of the podium.

 

 

The final of the Epée men’s event was a 100% Ukrainian duel as Roman Svichkar and Igor Reizlin were both competing for the gold medal. Roman Svichkar defeated his teammate in an intense final and won a deserved title! The Russian Alan Fardzinov, bronze medallist at the 6th CISM World Summer Games in Mungyeong (KOR) and the Polish Radoslow Zawrotniak both took bronze.

 

 

The last event of the day was dedicated to the men’s sabre competition. The fans attended an impressive final between the two Italians Gabrielle Foschini and Alberto Pellegrini. Foschini defeated his opponent and became the new military World Champion in Sabre ahead of Pellegrini, silver medallist. The French delegation grabbed its first medals of the competition with the third place of Maxence Lambert and Tom Seitz.
