70th CISM Anniversary

 

 

BRUSSELS (BEL) - On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the creation of CISM - International Military Sports Council, commemorative ceremonies and a CISM Day Run for Peace Peace will be held in the presence of civil and military authorities, on Sunday, February 18, 2018 , in Nice.

On February 18, 1948, at the instigation of Colonel Henri Debrus, France, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg and the Netherlands created in Nice the International Military Sports Council, with the idea of meet the armies on sports fields. This hope of friendship and peace between peoples has been reflected in CISM's motto "friendship through sport". Today, 136 nations continue to write the pages of military sport within CISM.

70 years later, the day of February 18 will celebrate this anniversary, with a ceremony at the monument to the dead of Rauba Capeu of Nice and the official inauguration of the commemorative plaque of the 70th anniversary of the creation of CISM at Albert 1st gardens Nice.

The day will be punctuated by a CISM Day Run for Peace on the Promenade des Anglais, a tribute to the victims of attacks. This race is part of the CISM Day Run for Peace program and will include the participation of the 5 founding nations of CISM and 14 other nations, military athletes from the units of the Defense and Security South zone and Athletes of the Army of Champions. It is also open to clubs of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The 6-kilometer course will run in mixed teams of 4 runners with a start scheduled at 16:30.
