Nepal is a new member of the CISM Family
PUNTA CANA (DOM) - In the framework of the 73rd CISM General Assembly and Congress that took place in Punta Cana in Dominican Republic, Nepal was voted by the General Assembly as a new CISM Member Nation. Here are the impressions of their Chief of Delegation.
What is your feeling after this vote of admission within the CISM Family?
« It's an honor for us to join the CISM Family. All the work done over the last three years in the context of our membership in CISM has finally paid off. This opportunity is a real achievement for the Nepalese Army and for the development of military sport at the national level. We will do our best to adopt the true spirit of CISM in the future. We are also very impressed by the democratic process adopted by the General Assembly which allowed us to join CISM »
Which factors have encouraged you country to join CISM?
« First, our values are in line with the CISM motto," Friendship through Sport ". CISM also has a rich history and provides a solid structure for the 138 CISM Member Nations. We have also always shown great involvement in the development of Military Sport. This membership will for sure allow our athletes to enjoy greater media exposure and gain more experience in future years. »
Can you describe the current situation of military sport in your country (structure, events)? How can membership in CISM change the situation?
« The Nepal Armed Forces have always demonstrated a huge interest in the sports activities within the Army because the sports activity contributes significantly to esprit-de-corps, team spirit, physical fitness, friendship and fraternity. Most of Nepal's top athletes are members of the Nepal Armed Forces and compete in excellent competitions in nearly 35 different sports. In addition, we have as many female athletes as male athletes. More than 60% of the national team members are part of the Armed Forces. We hope that our CISM membership will provide a new platform for our athletes through which our soldiers will enjoy greater exposure that will benefit the overall development of our country. »
Do you have plans to participate and / or organize CISM events in the near future?
« We obviously intend to participate in CISM events in the near future. Regarding the organization of events, since we have just joined the CISM, we will need time to make such commitments. Nevertheless, we are certainly interested in organizing a CISM event in the medium term. »
