64th WMC Military Pentathlon – Salinas (ECU) – Update – Day 3

 

 

Obstacle Swimming Event

 

SALINAS (ECU) – The third day of competition of the 64th World Military Pentathlon Championship took place yesterday in Salinas (ECU) with the obstacle-swimming event.

The obstacle-swimming event consist of a 50 meters race with four standardized obstacles: two tubular beams (pass over the first beam and dive under the second one); passing under a 3 m long raft in a floating position; surmount a fixed platform on stays or floaters, carpet covered, placed 50 cm (± 1 cm) above the water without using the stays or floaters of the platform and dive into the water from the far end side of the platform; pass under a tubular beam (diameter 16 cm) fixed to the tightly secured lines at surface level.

 

 

The leader of the provisional individual overall ranking, Corporal Philipp Eibl succeeded in increasing his lead with his second place in the obstacle-swimming event. Indeed, the Chinese Corporal Zheng Zhang finished the race with a 0,1 second lead ahead of Eibl (24,5 seconds), allowing to come up on the highest step of the podium. 1. CM Davide Riccio took the third place of the podium in 25,0 seconds.

After three events, the individual men overall ranking didn’t change as Corporal Eibl’ is still leading the competition with 3436,7 points ahead of 1.Lt Aliaksandr Vasileuski (3387,8 points) and Sgt Wilberto Torres (3369,2 points).

 

 

Belarus (Vasileuski, Shkuruk, Heramisau, Markevich and Viarenich), ranked third in the provisional male team ranking, was the best nation yesterday in the obstacle swimming event with 4525,6 points and shared the first place with Russia (Krylov, Svechnikov A. and P., Alpatov and Driukhanov) while China (Zhang, Gong, Wang, Pan, Aniuergu) was ranked third with 4516,0 points.

Thanks to their good results yesterday, Belarus and China knocked Ecuador off the top of the podium. Belarus is now leading the competition with 13340,5 points ahead of China (13321,3 points) and Brazil (Sales, Castro, Cabral, Bordin and Garcia – 13310,5 points).

 

 

The Brazilian female athletes were quite impressive yesterday as Private Naiana Freire (27,3 seconds) and her teammate Sergeant Lessa Jessica (29,1) respectively finished first and fourth in the individual obstacle-swimming event. With her performance, Private Freire event managed to break the World Record of the event! An impressive performance from the Brazilian athlete. Two Russian athletes, WO Kristina Tikhonovich and WO Evgeniia Aksenova, took the silver and bronze medal with a respective time of 27,9 seconds and 28,1 seconds.

After three events, Corporal Chaonan Guan (3358,1 points) from China is still leading the provisional ranking now only 7,5 points ahead of her teammate Corporal Wu Qian (3350,6) while another Chinese athlete, 1Lt. Tang Lin Wang is ranked third with 3344,2 points, 1,8 points ahead of Private Sara Hjalager. The battle for the medals will be fierce until the end of the competition!

 

 

After being ranked third in the obstacle run competition, the Russian Konokpo, Egorova, Aksenova and Tikhonovich took the gold medal of the obstacle swimming team event with 3472,8 points. Brazil (Freire, Jessica, Ramos and Drumond – 3434,8 points) took the silver medal while Denmark (Nielsen, Hjalager, Kjar and Tolstrup) grabbed the bronze medal with 3372,0 points

After three out of the 5 events, the Chinese female team (Guan, Wu, Wang and Lu) is still topping the podium of the provisional team ranking with 10052,9 points. They have now taken a very strong lead for the gold medal. After this first place, Russia is now ranked second with 9849,1 points while Denmark (9783,7 points) is now standing on the third place of the podium.

The Gift Echange took place in the evening.

 

 

The Throwing event will take place today, July 03, in Salinas!
