TOKYO (FRA) - The second day of finals at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games brought its share of satisfaction and success for the CISM athletes with one gold medal, three new silver and three bronze medals.

Captain Nurse Javad Foroughi triumphed in the men's 10m air pistol final, setting a new Olympic record of 244.8 points to take gold at the Asaka Shooting Range. The 41-year-old shooter held his nerve to win a thrilling final, with Serbia's Damir Mikec finishing second on 237.9 points and People's Republic of China's Wei Pang winning bronze with 217.6 points

Foroughi has been in fine form this year, winning gold at the ISSF World Cup that took place in Croatia in June to add to the gold he won at the World Cup in March in Delhi, India. Now he can add Olympic champion to his list of titles after a dominant display of shooting in Tokyo.

However, the Iranian Armed Forced athlete, who became his country's oldest ever Olympic medallist, showed nerves of steel to take gold by 6.9 points. Foroughi surged to the front in the early stages of the competition and never relinquished his lead, hitting the 10 ring consistently on his way to victory. With two shots left, he led by 4.2 points before stretching his lead to just shy of seven to set the Olympic record.

Foroughi only started professional training in 2017 and continued his work as a nurse in the Armed Forced hospital. His training was severely disrupted by the closure of training centers due to the pandemic and his own infection of COVID, but all the hard work after night shifts finally made him a proud Olympic champion.
