Lifesaving Gold and World Record, the Target for Brazil's Pereira

WUHAN (CHN) - Filipe Pereira (BRA) has high hopes that Brazil's lifesaving team can exceed its own expectations at its first appearance at the 7th CISM Military World Games.

And it certainly could happen as Pereira and team-mate Gustavo Gimenes will take part in the 7th CWG with a military world record in the 4x50m medley under their belts.

"In Brazil, this sport is still new," said Pereira. "Brazil started this sport five years ago with trainings and we participated in our first competition in Sweden (48th WMC Lifesaving – Halmstad) in 2016, where we broke the record [for the 4x50m medley].”

The 33-year old lifeguard from Rio de Janiero believes that since that championship Brazil has been getting better and better, with the men already swimming faster than their record time of 1min 32.23secs twice in unofficial competition.

As Yuri Marinho and Pablo Aquino, who were part of that record-breaking quartet, will not be competing in Wuhan, Pereira and Gimenes have two new team-mates on board for the Games, and Pereira says he has complete faith in them.

“We’re expecting a good race and maybe be the team that breaks our own record,” he said.
