SAN DIEGO (USA) - The 14th CISM World Military Golf Championship held in San Diego, USA, in 2022 featured an impressive gathering of 103 military participants from 17 different nations. The event took place at the stunning Admiral Baker Golf Course and was marked by a spectacular opening ceremony.

 

The competition kicked off on October 3, with military contingents from various countries teeing off against the backdrop of rolling hills and clear blue skies. The opening ceremony included the raising of the CISM and the host nation's flags, followed by welcoming remarks from NBSD Commanding Officer Captain Robert A. Heely, who expressed his excitement about hosting this prestigious event.

 

Mr. Steven Dinote, the Armed Forces Sports Council Secretariat, and U.S. Chief of Delegation to CISM, provided insight into the rich history of CISM Golf and introduced the Official CISM Representative, Zimbabwean Air Vice Marshall Simon Nyowani. Nyowani extended his best wishes to all the competitors and emphasized the spirit of "Friendship through Sport." Navy Rear Admiral Daniel Cheever officially declared the event open, and the crowd showed enthusiastic support.

The competition unfolded over four days, with the final results showcasing remarkable performances from both the USA Men and Women Golf Teams.

 

In the men's division, Team USA displayed dominance by finishing an impressive 20 strokes under par, with Navy Lt. Jacob Meloche leading the way with a consistent 5-under par score. Team France secured the second position, 18 strokes behind the USA, with Nicolas Muller leading their efforts.

 

On the women's front, Air Force 1st Lt. Kimberly Liu and Army Capt. Melanie De Leon led the USA Women's team, with a comfortable 10-stroke lead over France.

The competition came to an exciting conclusion on October 7, with a thrilling showdown in the women's division. France's Pauline Stein and USA's Melanie De Leon engaged in an intense 18-hole duel that ultimately led to a championship playoff, which Stein won, securing her first CISM gold medal.

 

In the men's category, Navy Lieutenant Jacob Meloche emerged as the champion, maintaining a commanding lead throughout the tournament with an impressive 11-under par score. Team USA's exceptional performance led them to a resounding victory in the team competition.

Team USA Women dominated the tournament, securing their historic 10th CISM Women's gold medal, with Team France and Team Germany claiming the second and third positions, respectively.

 

Team USA Men also had a dominant performance, finishing 30 strokes under par, with Team France and Team Ireland securing the second and third positions.
