
ATHENS (GRE) – The International Olympic Academy (IOA) welcomed the CISM Secretary General, Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, at its offices in Athens, marking another important step in the longstanding academic cooperation between the two institutions.
The meeting brought together IOA President Charilaos Tsolakis, IOA General Director Makis Asimakopoulos, CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, the Chief of the Greek Delegation to CISM, Mr. Spyridon Andriopoulos, and CISM Headquarters Acting Academic Director Lieutenant Commander (OLY) Florentia Sfakianou of the Hellenic Navy.
Discussions focused on the Protocol of Academic Understanding signed in 2020, which formalized the partnership between IOA and CISM in the field of education and academic development. The participants explored new opportunities to enhance cooperation through academic initiatives, educational programs, and joint activities promoting Olympic and CISM values within international and military sports communities.

The meeting concluded in a spirit of strong cooperation, reaffirming the commitment of both organizations to advancing education through sport and to further developing their partnership in the coming years.
Following the visit to the IOA, the CISM Secretary General also met with the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), Isidoros Kouvelos, at the HOC headquarters. Their discussion centered on potential collaborative efforts in the lead-up to the World Military Games, as well as broader initiatives grounded in the shared values of Friendship, Peace, and Unity. Both parties emphasized the importance of cooperation in promoting these principles through sport and expressed readiness to explore joint actions that support athletes and foster international understanding.
