Opening Ceremony and first session of the CISM Board of Directors Meeting in Brasilia (BRA)

BRASILIA (BRA) – The first CISM Board of Directors Meeting started yesterday, March 12, in Brasilia (BRA) with the Opening Ceremony and the first session of the BoD. Despite the absence of several BoD Members due to the COVID-19, the CISM Delegation, led by the CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirllo and the CISM Secretary General, Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, attended the Opening Ceremony. The event took place in presence of Lieutenant-General (Air Force) José Isaias Augusto De Carvalho Neto, Lieutenant-General Jorge Antonio Smicelato, Chief of the Brazilian Delegation to CISM, the BoD Members in attendance and the CISM General Secretariat Staff.

During this Opening Ceremony, the CISM President awarded the CISM "Grand Officer" Medal of Merit to General Jorge Antonio Smicelato, Chief of the Brazilian Delegation to CISM.

Colonel Hervé Piccirillo thanked the Brazilian authorities for the organization of the BoD and recalled the major role played by Brazil in the development of CISM around the world. Brazil joined CISM in 1954 and notably organized the 5th World Military Summer Games in 2011, which were a success.

The CISM President also recalled the values ​​that unite military personnel around the world and the strategic role of sport in building peace and security in the world. He clarified the importance of the development of disabled sports for the reconstruction of injured soldiers.

Right after this Opening Ceremony, the BoD Members attended the first session of the BoD Meeting in the afternoon while in the evening, the CISM Delegation was invited for a Gala dinner during which the Brazilian Military Sports Merit medal was bestowed to the CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo by the General Jorge Antonio Smicelato, Chief of the Brazilian Delegation to CISM while the Brazilian Army Medal was also awarded to the CISM President and the CISM Secretary General Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita.

The Board of Directors Meeting will continue today, March 13, with the second and third session of the Board of Directors.
