CISM European Conference in Nicosia, Cyprus – The CISM President awarded the CISM Order of Merit (Grand Officer) to the Cyprus MOD

 

 

NICOSIA (CYP) - From 23 to 26 October 2017, the CISM European Conference took place in Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. The Minister of Defense of Cyprus Mr. Christoforos Fokaidis opened the European Conference in presence of Colonel Abdulhakim Alshino, the CISM President, Colonel Dirk Schwede, the Vice President Europe, Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, CISM Secretary General and 30 European member nations. The CISM President also had the opportunity to meet the Cypriot Minister of Defense (MOD) Mr. Christoforos Fokaidis.

 

 

CISM President awarded the CISM Order of Merit (Grand Officer) to the Cypriot MoD. Moreover, together with CISM Vice President Colonel Dirk Schwede, he met the Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris. CISM President expressed his appreciation towards the Cypriot Armed Forces for their active involvement within the CISM family and emphasized the huge contribution of all the European CISM Delegations within CISM activities.

 

 

On the second day of the CISM European Conference, the CISM President, the CISM Secretary General, the CISM European President and the European members of the CISM Board of Directors held their presentation. CISM President opened the CISM European Conference's session and reminded his main axes during his mandate, gave an update on his last meetings some recently held within the International Sport Communities. The CISM Secretary General presented the 2017-2018 CISM activities and also highlighted the CISM 70th Anniversary that will take place in February 2018 in Nice (FRA).

 

The working group, during which strategy and business plans for 2018-2019 were developed, were very productive. In the meantime, a meeting was held with the PCSC Shooting to evoke the future championships. The CISM World Cadet Games Project Manager, Major Johan Groen, also had the opportunity to introduce the 3rd World Cadet Games that will take place from 28 April to 6 May 2018 in Indonesia and also inquired about potential hosts for the 4th edition of the WGC in 2020.

 

 

On the last day of the CISM European Conference, the results of the working groups were discussed. Afterwards, the organizing Nations presented the CISM Championships 2018.

The Chief of General Staff of the National Guard of Cyprus Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris closed the CISM European Conference.

 

 

During the Closing Ceremony, Colonel Dirk Schwede, CISM VP Europe, presented the CISM flag to the Chief of the Bulgarian Delegation, as Bulgaria will host the next European Conference in 2018. CISM Europe also thanked the CISM Delegation of Cyprus for this well-organized and productive conference.
