WANG Hammers Home China's Domination with Golden Throw

WUHAN (CHN) - WANG Zheng (CHN) extended China's remarkable winning sequence in women's hammer at the 7th CISM Military World Games (7th CWG) to delight the opening night crowd at Wuhan Five Rings Sports Center on October 22.

The 31-year-old produced her best throw at the fourth attempt, sending the hammer to 69.34 meters to finish 45 centimeters clear of Slovakia's Martina HRASNOVA who took the silver medal.

WANG's gold adds to the Games titles won in the event by compatriot ZHANG Wenxiu in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

"I was told that I might face much more pressure when competing at home, because everyone would expect me to win (so) I did feel the heavy burden on my shoulders," WANG said. "I want to say, ‘I love you’ to my coach."

On a track dampened by rain, the top three in the women's 100m final were separated by only four hundredths of a second, Carolle ZAHI of France winning gold from lane one in 11.36.

"I was a little bit tired when I was out there but it's competition and when you want to win you forget everything around you," ZAHI said. "I was really focused on the start because it was a problem this morning and I told myself that if I do better I will win."

Brazil's Rosangela SANTOS and Vitoria ROSA took the silver and bronze, crossing the line 0.03 and 0.04 seconds behind ZAHI.

The finalists of the 100m men’s race were very nervous with Abdulraof RASHID (BRN) disqualified for a false start before Hassan TAFTIAN (IRI) offered to Iran's its second gold medal at the 7th CWG in 10.24secs.

"I thought I made a false start, but I didn't (so) I was happy to still be in the competition," he said. "I told myself, 'Hassan, it's time'."

World champion Salwa NASER (BRN) achieved an outstanding performance in the women's 400m, taking the gold medal by being one second faster than Polina MILLER (RUS).

"I'm happy because this is my last 400m this season and I can now go off-season," NASER said. "I will go on vacation. I don't know where yet, it's going to be Iceland or Nigeria. I'll decide when I get home."

The 7th CWG athletics competition resumes on the morning of October 23.
