XIAO (CHN) becomes most decorated Wuhan 2019 gymnast as China secures artistic gymnastics sweep

WUHAN (CHN) - China's XIAO Ruoteng became the most decorated gymnast at the Wuhan 2019 Military World Games on Saturday as he grabbed the most medals of any gymnast - a total of six with three of them gold.

"Going into Wuhan 2019, I thought that if I performed well I could win four gold medals. Now I've got three, it's almost four, so I feel satisfied with the result," said XIAO.

The star Chinese gymnast started his medal race with gold in the all-around on the first day of competition and finished on a high as he clinched horizontal bar gold in the final event of the tournament.

"I think it represents that I had a good beginning [of the competition] and a good end. It shows that I've tried my best during the whole competition," said XIAO.

Sandwiched between two individual gold medals, XIAO led the Chinese team to the top of the podium in the team competition. He also added three silver medals [on parallel bars, floor exercise and pommel horse] to his trophy cabinet.

"I feel really good. Of course, the results are about the things that are in your own capacity. If you perform well, you will get a good result. That is what I did."

At Wuhan 2019, the Chinese team secured a remarkable clean sweep with all gold medals won by Chinese gymnasts.

DENG Shudi (CHN) grabbed floor exercises gold, ZOU Jingyuan (CHN) on parallel bars and pommel horse while LIU Yang (CHN) dominated on rings.

"I think the performances of our team have been really good here. We have won all the gold medals, it's great," said XIAO.

And as if to underline their dominance, China gymnasts also claimed silver in four of the six apparatus finals.

Arthur ZANETTI (BRA silver on rings) and KIM Chol (PRK silver on vault) were the only non-Chinese silver medalists in the individual finals.
