CISM 2nd World Football Cup – Muscat (OMA)

 

 

Competition Day 2

MUSCAT (OMA) – The second day of competition of the 2nd CISM World Football Cup took place yesterday, January 16, in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. In the second game of the Group A, France was facing Bahrain in the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex at 17.00 (local time).

 

 

Bahrain and France started the game with envy. Despite two big chances for France in the first ten minutes, the two teams did not manage to score a goal and at the half time, the two teams came back to the lockers room on a 0-0 draw. After only five minutes in the second half, after a nice combination between the Bahrain Players, Madan scored the sole goal of the game. As the French players seemed more tired and showed some technical difficulties, Bahrain created more opportunities in the second half but did not succeed in scoring a second goal.

 

 

Next games of the group A: France vs Guinea and Oman vs Bahrain.

The first game of the Group B took place in the Seeb Sports Stadium as Algeria faced Germany

From the start, Algeria directly showed his technical skills and created some opportunities they could not concretize. However, the 33nd minute was fatal to the valiant Germans, as the Algerian player Mizian managed to score an amazing goal from inside the box into the top corner! The halftime was blown with a 1-0 lead for Algeria. In the second halftime, the Germans reacted and created a few opportunities and event managed to score the equalizer after a long clearance of the goalkeeper as #9 Stahl beat the Algerian goalkeeper (63’’). The end of the game was passionate as both teams almost scored the winning goal, but finally, #14 Khadir headed a memorable winner on a perfect defense-splitting pass four minutes from the time to give Algeria a first victory in the tournament.

 

 

At 20.00 (local time), the Islamic Republic of Iran was confronted to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the Seeb Sports Stadium. The first half was a bit disappointing for the spectators as the teams created few occasions. The Korean players scored the first goal: after a good work on the right wing, #6 K Chunghyok delivered a precise center to #10 A Il Bom who scored a beautiful volley to give the advantage to his team (47’’). Eight minutes later, on a corner, Korea took advantage of a defense mistake of the Iranian goalkeeper to double its advantage and settle the victory (2-0) and take the first place of the group B ahead of Algeria. For the next two games of the Group B, Algeria will face the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will challenge Germany
