30th WMC Cycling (Mountain Bike) - Kamnik (SLO) - Day 1

 

 

KAMNIK (SLO) – The 30th World Military Cycling Championship officially started yesterday, May 12, in the city of Kamnik which is a town in northern Slovenia. It is the central settlement of the Municipality of Kamnik and it encompasses a large part of the Kamnik Alps and the surrounding area. 37 athletes (31 men and 6 women) from 9 nations (Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Germany, France, Latvia, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Slovenia).

 

 

After the technical meeting held in the morning with the drawing of the bibs and the training in the City, the Opening Ceremony took place in Kamnik in presence of the Official CISM Representative and CISM Sports Director Colonel Carlos Santos, the PCSC Cycling Lieutenant Joey Ermens, the Head of Organizing Committee and Chief of Delegation of Slovenia to CISM Lieutenant-Colonel Jure Velepec, the former PCSC Cycling Wim de Geyter, the Mayor of Kamnik Mr. Marjan Sarec, the Chairman of the Competition Colonel Borut Cesar, the President of the Slovenian Cycling Federation Mr. Tomaz Grm, the Chiefs of Delegation of the participating Nations and local and international high authorities.

 

In the evening, the participants attended the traditional Opening banquet & Gifts exchange session.

The competititons will take place today, May 13, right after the national civilian competition. The male athletes will have to ride 5 laps while the women will ride 4 laps. 

 

 

 

Technical specifications:

  • 1 lap = 4,210 m

  • Elevation gain: 208 m per lap

  • 2 TECH. & FEED zones

  • Number of laps: 5 for men and 4 for women
