RENNES - The two semifinals of the first CISM Football Women's World Cup took place in Saint-Malo (FRA). The local club did a great job in order to make this day a festival of football and many spectators attended those two games.
In the first game, Brazil faced Cameroon. From the time the game started, the Cameroonian team showed an offensive face and Brazilian simply controlled the game. At halftime, both teams returned to the locker room without having scored a goal. At the 63rd minute, the Cameroonian Sonkeng was substituted after an injury caused by a rough contact a Brazilian player. A second blank period goal meant extra time for the two teams. Reduced to 10 following Catherine Mbengono red card, the Cameroonian team finally broke down a few minutes before the final whistle when Larissa Ferreira (BRA) converted a penalty kick sending Brazil in the final.
In the other semifinal, Korea faced the home team in front of many spectators fully committed to the France team. It was high-scoring game: after only 4 minutes, French Maryse Ngo Ndoumbouk scored, imitated a few minutes later by Korean Ban Do Young. At the 25th minute, France took the lead and returned to the locker room with a small advantage (2/1). In the second half, France had to wait until the 83rd minute to extend their lead via Julie Machart. While they were reduced to 10 (expulsion of Da Eun Jeon), Korean immediately reacted through Lee (3-2). Despite some Korean opportunities in the final minutes, France finally achieved victory (3-2) and will face Brazil in the final of the competition.
The match for the bronze medal will confront South Korea to Cameroon.
