BRUSSELS (BEL) - In the face of unparalleled geopolitical turbulence gripping the globe in 2024, the imperative for fostering a culture of peace resonates more urgently than ever. Responding to this pressing need, Champions for Peace, a coalition comprising 110 esteemed athletes dedicated to advancing peace through sport, are leveraging their influence and principles through the #WhiteCard campaign. Their objective: to champion the cause of more peaceful and inclusive societies.
As the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) approaches, Peace and Sport is convening a crucial consultation with Champions for Peace, alongside a thematic event co-organized with UNESCO. These initiatives are strategically designed to delve into the pivotal role athletes play as advocates for peacebuilding. They also aim to dissect the expectations and hurdles encountered by athletes in their endeavours to foster inclusive and harmonious societies.
CISM recognizes the vital importance of this endeavour. In solidarity with the global sports community, CISM is calling upon its members, partners, and affiliates to rally behind the Sport and Peace initiative of the #WhiteCard campaign.
