Five Olympic Titles for our military athletes yesterday at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2021 - Day 14

TOKYO (FRA) - Yesterday was once again one of the most prolific days for our military athletes with five new gold medals!


First, Warrant Officer Zaurbek Sidakov (RUS) claimed the Olympic title in the Men's Freestyle 74kg category (Wrestling) against Belarusian Kadzimahamedau, winning easily (7-0). After a first round in which the two men tested each other, the Russian athlete gave everything in the second round during which he scored six points to finally win 7-0.

In table tennis, the men's team competition confirmed China's domination of the discipline with a new gold medal for the representative of the Chinese Armed Forces Zhendong Fan. It was a replay of the Beijing Olympic final, with an identical outcome. On Friday, China beat Germany in the men's table tennis team final (3-0). The Chinese, led by five-time Olympic champion Ma Long and Zhengong Fan, remain unbeaten since the event was introduced to the Games in 2008.

Italian Corporal Luigi Busa' became Olympic champion after defeating Azeri Aghayev in the final of the Men's Kumite -75kg Karate category!

In sport climbing, 22-year-old Janja Garnbret (OR1) took the Olympic title in the women's combined event (5 pts). The Slovenian, six times world champion, limited the breakage in speed with a fifth place on Friday morning, before crushing the boulder and then winning the difficulty (37 +) while OR3 - Corporal Jessica Pilz (AUT) took the seventh place.

Another Olympic title for the Italian Armed Forces with the gold medal of Corporal Antonella Palmisano (ITA) on the Women's 20km Race Walking (Track & Field)! On her thirtieth birthday and five years after finishing at the foot of the podium in Rio, Palmisano won in 1 h 29 min 12 sec ahead of Colombia's Sandra Lorena Arenas, 25 seconds behind, and China's Liu Hong, 45 seconds behind.

The Dominican Republic Armed Forces claimed a first Olympic medal with the second place of Cabo Marileidy Paulino in the Women's 400m Event (Track & Field)! Shaunae Miller-Uibo retained her Olympic title from Rio de Janeiro ahead of Marileidy Paulino and Allyson Felix, bronze medallist.

Sergeant Muslim Gadzhimagomedov (RUS) grabbed the silver medal in the Men's Heavy (89-91kg) competition (Boxing) while 3rd Sergeant Abner Teixeira da Silva Junior (BRA) took bronze in the same competition.

The Russian Armed Forces claimed another bronze medal with the third place of Warrant Officer Mariia Novolodskaia in the Women's Madison competition (Cycling Track).

 

In Modern Pentathlon, Sergeant Sarolta Kovács of the CISM Hungarian Delegation grabbed bronze in the Individual Women's Event! The British Kate French won the title at the end of the final event with an Olympic record ahead of the Lithuanian Laura Asadauskaite, who won in London in 2012, and Sarolta Kovacs (1,368 pts). In the same competition, Lieutenant Elodie Clouvel (FRA) and Lithuania's Gintare Venckauskaite finished sixth and seventh respectively.
