Two Olympic titles for Nowicki (POL) and Cuhna (BRA) in Track & Field and Swimming - Day 12

TOKYO (FRA) - After an exceptional day punctuated by five Olympic titles for our military athletes, several CISM representatives once again made their mark on the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

 

NowickiWojciech Nowicki


After a gold medal in the hammer throw event at the Wuhan 2019 Military World Summer Games, Polish Armed Forces representative Wojciech Nowicki broke his personal best by sending the hammer to 82.52m and secured his first Olympic gold medal on his third throw. Also in the Men's Hammer Throw (Track & Field) event, Warrant Officer Valery Pronkin finished eighth!

Also a gold medallist in Wuhan in 2019, 3rd Sergeant Ana Marcela de Jesus Soares da Cunha (BRA) finished less than a second ahead of Sharon van Rouwendaal in the Women's 10km Marathon Swimming.


In the Women's Two Person Dinghy (Sailing), the representatives of the Polish Armed Forces Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Jolanta Ogar, both gold medallists in Wuhan, finished on the second place of the podium behind Great Britain. The third step of the podium is occupied by Petty Officer 1st Class Camille Lecointre (silver medallist in Wuhan) from the French Army of Champions while OR1 Veronika Macarol and OR1 Tina Mrak (SLO) finish fifth in the competition.

Hungarian Staff Sergeant Viktor Lőrincz, gold medallist in Wuhan, lost in the final of the Men's Greco-Roman 87kg category to Ukraine's Beleniuk. This was his second Olympic silver medal after the one he won in 2016 in Rio. Still in Men's Greco-Roman 87kg, the German OR5 Denis Kudla took the bronze medal.

Also in wrestling, Master Corporal OR 4 Frank Stäbler finished third in the Men's Greco-Roman 67kg category while Lieutenant Artem Surkov took fifth place.

The Polish Armed Forces won a second Olympic medal with Patryk Dobek's third place in the Men's 800m Track & Field. Dobek had already made a strong impression by finishing third in the 400m and first in the 4x400m at the Military World Summer Games in Wuhan 2019.

  • Corporal Giulio Calabro' (ITA - Men’s Two Person Dinghy – 470 – Sailing)

  • OR1 Maruša Mišmaš Zrimšek (SLO - Women’s 3000m Steeple - Track & Field)

 

8th place :

  • Private Robin Froidevaux (SUI - Men’s Team Pursuit - Cycling (Track))

  • Private Stefan Bissegger (SUI - Men’s Team Pursuit - Cycling (Track))

  • Private Mauro Schmid (SUI - Men’s Team Pursuit - Cycling (Track))

  • Private Valère Thiébaud (SUI - Men’s Team Pursuit - Cycling (Track))

  • Private First-Class Cyrille Thièry (SUI - Men’s Team Pursuit - Cycling (Track))

  • Warrant Officer Valery Pronkin (RUS - Men’s Hammer Throw - Track & Field)
