CARACAS (VEN) - The IV World Cadet Games 2024 commenced in Caracas, Venezuela, on August 18, with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Bolivarian Military University. The Games featured participants from eight countries, including China, Russia, and Venezuela, with notable performances across various sports.
On Day 1, the Games showcased impressive performances in fencing, volleyball, and military pentathlon. Venezuela’s women’s fencing team clinched gold in the team épée event, while the Russian men’s foil team secured gold.
The second day of competition highlighted orienteering and track and field events. Russian and Chinese athletes excelled in orienteering, and Venezuelan competitors made significant strides in track and field.
Day 3 saw exceptional achievements in shooting, fencing, and swimming. Venezuela and Russia stood out in fencing, with Venezuela winning several swimming medals.
The fourth day of competition was particularly remarkable for Venezuela. In fencing, the Venezuelan women’s team captured gold in both the épée and foil team events, defeating strong Russian teams. The men’s team also won gold in the team sabre competition. In individual fencing, Valladares Sofia won the women’s épée, and Colina emerged victorious in men’s foil. In swimming, Venezuela earned multiple medals, including second place in the women’s 200-meter medley and strong finishes in other events.
The day also featured standout performances in athletics, with Venezuela earning medals in the 800 meters and long jump, and impressive results in the grenade throwing event of the military pentathlon. China continued its dominance in shooting, winning gold in various events, while the Venezuelan and Chinese women’s volleyball teams advanced to the finals.
Day 5 was highlighted by Venezuela’s historic win in the women’s 4x400m relay, setting a new World Cadet Games record. Venezuela also excelled in the 1500m races and sprints, adding to their impressive medal tally. The men’s 4x400m relay saw Russia secure gold, with Venezuela finishing in second place.
The final day featured Venezuela’s double gold in the military pentathlon obstacle relay, underscoring their strong performance throughout the Games. Russia emerged as the overall leader with 107 medals, followed by China with 68 and Venezuela with 89.
The Games, marked by competitive excellence and international camaraderie, highlighted Venezuela’s significant achievements and the spirit of unity among military youth worldwide.
