Over 800 Participants Join Forces at the International Day of Military Sports in Belgium

LEOPOLDSBURG (BEL) - In a remarkable display of athleticism and camaraderie, the International Day of Military Sports, held on February 29th, saw over 800 participants gather at Kamp Beverlo, Zegeplaats in Leopoldsburg, for an event organized by the Belgian Delegation to CISM and the Belgian Defense. Participants, including military representatives from various countries, took part in a choice of a 6 or 10km jog or a 6km walk, marking another successful year for this growing international gathering.

 

The event has seen a steady increase in participation, partners, and sponsors over the years, a trend that continued into this year's day of military sports. Notably, the event also received support from Sport Vlaanderen, the sports administration of the Flemish government, further solidifying its importance and appeal within the sports and military communities.

This year's edition was also distinguished by the participation of the CISM Headquarters Staff, along with Belgian elite and Olympic athletes from the Belgian Defense. Among the notable athletes were Sdt Gabriel De Coster, 1Sdt Simon Debognies, 1Sdt Robin Hendrix, 1Sdt Dieter Kersten, 1Sdt Victor Martinez, 1Sdt Jens Schuermans, 1Sdt Erwin Vanderplancke, Kpl Elke Vanhoof, Adjt Jeroen Nollet, Sdt Ray Lodens, CLC David Grauwels, 1Sdt Neal Willems, 1Sdt Alessia Corrao, 1Sdt Noah Kuavita, 1Sdt Loïs Petit, and 1Sdt Jarno Verwimp. The event also welcomed a delegation of parasport athletes from the newly formed association 'Military Parasport Kintsugi asbl/vzw of the Belgian Defense', including participants in the Invictus Games, showcasing the inclusivity and broad appeal of the event.

CISM extend their heartfelt thanks to all participants, partners, and sponsors for their invaluable support in making the International Day of Military Sports a success. The involvement of the Belgian Delegation to CISM and the Belgian Defense was crucial in orchestrating an event that not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters international military cooperation and friendship.
