CISM welcomes French Chief of Delegation for high-level discussions in Brussels

BRUSSELS (BEL) - The International Military Sports Council (CISM) had the honour of welcoming the Chief of Delegation of France, Cyrille Becker, to its Headquarters in Brussels on 31 March 2026. Brigadier General Becker, who also serves as Commander of the Académie militaire des sports de la Défense, was accompanied by 2nd Lieutenant Gabrielle Colcombet for this official visit, highlighting France’s continued commitment to military sport at both national and international levels.

The French delegation was warmly received by Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, Secretary General of CISM, together with members of the CISM Headquarters staff. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to further strengthen the long-standing and dynamic relationship between France and CISM, a nation widely recognized for its active and consistent engagement within the CISM community.

Discussions began with a comprehensive presentation of the French Delegation, outlining the structure, missions, and key activities of the Académie militaire des sports de la Défense. Particular emphasis was placed on France’s role in developing high-level military athletes, its support to elite sport pathways, and its contribution to promoting the values of discipline, resilience, and excellence through sport within the armed forces.

CISM Headquarters Directors then presented the organisation’s current priorities and ongoing activities, including major upcoming events, educational initiatives, and the continued development of its global communication strategy. Special attention was given to preparations for the 8th CISM Military World Summer Games in 2027, as well as to the role of member nations in supporting the evolution of military sport in line with contemporary challenges.

The exchanges also focused on future areas of collaboration, reinforcing France’s position as one of the most engaged and proactive CISM member nations. France’s contributions are reflected not only through its regular participation in competitions, but also through the organisation of numerous CISM World Military Championships, the active involvement of its representatives as Presidents of CISM Sports Committees (PCSC), CSC Members and within other governing bodies, as well as the presence of French personnel within the CISM Headquarters itself.

This visit once again demonstrated the strength of the partnership between France and CISM, built on shared values and a mutual commitment to excellence. It also reaffirmed France’s key role in shaping the future of military sport, both in Europe and worldwide.

CISM extends its sincere appreciation to Brigadier General Cyrille Becker and 2nd Lieutenant Gabrielle Colcombet for their visit, and looks forward to continued cooperation with the French Armed Forces in promoting peace, solidarity and friendship through sport.
