1st WMC Climbing Indoor - Moscow (RUS) - Day 5

 

 

Two more gold medals for Russia!

 

MOSCOW (RUS) – The 1st WMC Indoor Climbing ended yesterday in Moscow with the Speed classic format competitions and once again, the Russian delegation was the strongest yesterday in the climbing gym of KLFC CSKA.

In the women’s, the podium was trusted by three representatives of the Russian Armed Forces.  In the final match between the all-around World Champion Elena Krasovskaya and Evgenia Lapshina was very interesting. In the first track, Krasovskaya was the fastest but she made a mistake in the second track, lost speed and was finally defeated by Evgeniya Lapshina, the new military world champion! The Russian Tatyana Shemulinkina grabbed the bronze medal against the Slovenian Katja Kadic.

 

 

In the men's final, Alexander Shikov, bronze medallist of the World Championship (Speed) faced the Kazakh Amir Maymuratov, as a replay of the Men’s Speed Record event. Once again, the results as the same with the victory of the Russian who won its second gold medal of the event while another Kazakh, Artem Devyatryakov, was ranked third.

 

 

Russia also won the overall team ranking ahead of Austria and Kazakhstan.

The last competition was directly followed by the Awarding and Closing Ceremony which were held in presence of Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Borghino, CISM Board of Directors Member, Sports Commission President and Official CISM Representative for this event; Colonel Oleg Botsman, Chief of Delegation of Russia to CISM; Colonel Artem Gromov, PCSC Climbing and Chief of CSKA; Lieutenant-Colonel Roman Kudryavtsev, Deputy Chief of CSKA; Dmitry Anatolyevich Bychkov, President of the Russian Climbing Federation; Evgeniy Levin, Jury President; Artur Akhmatkhuzin, Fencing Olympic Champion; Olympic volleyball champion, Marina Kumish, member of the CSKA sports veterans council; the Chiefs of Mission of the Participating Nations as well as local and international high authorities and fans.

 

 

During the closing ceremony, the CISM Order of Merit were also awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Ivanov for his performances during the WMC as the team leader of the Parachuting CSKA sports team as well as the President of the Russian Climbing Federation Dmitry Bychkov and the head of the department of CSKA team sports Colonel Viktor Rygulsky for the organization and quality of the WMC organized in Russia.  

 

 

“During the whole championships, I watched the competition with great interest and I can say that I am very impressed with the approach of all its participants, and, of course, the approach of brave and experienced athletes. Climbing is a very demanding discipline, directly related to the military nature and training for which athletes must develop physical, moral and psychological qualities to achieve their goals. Once again, I would like to thank the Russian Federation, all the personnel of CSKA and the Russian delegation to CISM for the excellent work done before and during the championship. I hope that everyone enjoyed the time spent in Moscow, the Russian hospitality and mood”, declared Walter Borghino who officially closed the first edition of the World Military Indoor Climbing Championship!
