
BRASÍLIA (BRA) – The International Military Sports Council marked an important occasion on Tuesday morning as the Brazilian Office of the CISM President, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense’s Secretariat for Health, Sports, and Social Projects and the Brazilian Sports Commission, organized a ceremony to award the CISM Order of Merit. The event was held at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Brasília and gathered distinguished civilian and military authorities.
For CISM, the Order of Merit Medal stands as one of the organization’s most significant distinctions. Composed of six grades, it is awarded to individuals whose actions and ideals meaningfully contribute to the development of sport within the Armed Forces and who provide exceptional service to CISM’s mission rooted in the motto “Friendship Through Sport.”
CISM President, Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, reaffirmed the organization’s vision and values. He stated that CISM’s mission is to promote friendship, peace, solidarity, and respect among the Armed Forces of the world through sport. He recalled the spirit of the award, explaining: “The CISM Order of Merit was born with this purpose. Created to honor those who dedicate time, vision, and energy so that military sports are not merely a practice, but a true link in global military diplomacy.”

Referring to the honorees, he added: “Each of today’s awardees helped bring nations closer together, inspired athletes, strengthened projects, and reinforced support for Brazilian military personnel serving within CISM.”
During the ceremony, several personalities were distinguished for their contributions. Cinara Wagner Fredo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense, was decorated with the Grand Officer Grade. Lieutenant General Heber Garcia Portella, retired, received the Knight Grade. Colonel Marco Antônio La Porta, President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, was also distinguished with the Knight Grade. Colonel Felipe Keese Diogo Campos, Coordinator of the CISM Representation in Brazil, received the Knight Grade as well.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment to reinforcing CISM’s mission in Brazil and around the world, emphasizing the essential role of military sport as a bridge for cooperation and friendship among nations.
