RIO DE JANEIRO (BRA) – The third and final day of the 22nd World Military Equestrian Championship took place on Sunday 17 October at the National Equestrian Centre - General Eloy Menezes Equestrian Park in Rio de Janeiro. Despite the gloomy weather and light rain, our military athletes performed superbly and all showed great determination.

Two rounds and two different courses were scheduled on this emotional day.

Local Lieutenant-Colonel Cláudio de Azevedo Goggia, from the Rio Grande do Sul Military Brigade, put on the show in front of the enthusiastic spectators. On his horse Patativa do Rincão, he finished first in both rounds with two clear rounds. Unfortunately, this first place was not enough for him to win the Military World Champion title and the Brazilian had to be satisfied with the silver medal.

Thanks to his second place of the day and a clear round, it is the French OR-9 Donatien Schauly, who was very consistent throughout the three days of competition, who becomes the World Military Equestrian Champion with only two points ahead of Lieutenant-Colonel Cláudio de Azevedo Goggia. A superb double for the French rider, who had already won the 20th World Military Equestrian Championship held at the time in Fontainebleau, France!

Ecuadorian Captain Xavier Alejandro Mosquera Salgado took third place in the day's competition while Warrant Officer Anastasiia Shcherbakova (RUS), who finished twelfth yesterday, finished third overall. A great performance from the Russian rider who finally broke down in the last round!
