Results of the CISM Athlete of the Year 2022 online voting

BRUSSELS (BEL) – The CISM Athlete of the Year Award 2022 will be presented to an athlete, in order to identify and recognize the most significant sportive performance, allied with the promoting of CISM values and enhancing CISM visibility, considering for the eligibility, in addition, the fair play, personal empathy, discipline, respect to the rules, self-behaviour etc.

The athletes eligible to run for this award are all male and female, in active military duty, who have participated in CISM events of Sports Category 1, during CISM World Military Championships or CISM World Games (Continental and Regional competitions under the appreciation of CISM General Secretariat). The period considered to evaluation is the CISM Championships calendar year, from January 1st to December 31st, 2022.

The first part of this process was an online public vote to select one male and one female athlete to be included in the final list presented to the CISM Board of Directors.

From December 21st to February 15th, the following athletes emerged after an intense struggle: Captain Dmytro Kmetiuk (UKR - Aeronautical Pentathlon) and Sergeant Ellen Caroline De Souza (BRA - Aeronautical Pentathlon) respectively winners with 3850 votes (49,7% of the votes) and 6424 votes (54,9%).

Please note that these votes are not considered as the final results. The official selection will be proceeded by the Board of Directors Members among these two athletes already selected by the CISM Family and the four athletes (two males and two females) that will be elected by the 25 Presidents of CISM Sport Committees.

Next steps of the Athlete of the Year 2022 process:

• 2nd step - PCSC voting: 20th February to 06th March 2023 (by online survey) with the selection of two additional male and two female athletes;
• 3rd step - BoD voting: 7th and 8th March (BoD Meeting 2023, Lucerne - Switzerland) with the election of one male and one female athlete from the list of three athletes, per gender, that was qualified through the previous steps;
• 4th step – Awarding Ceremony during the CISM General Assembly 2023 from 23rd to 30th April 2023.
