BRUSSELS (BEL) - It is with deep sadness that the CISM family learned of the passing of Major General (Ret.) Jean-Jacques Joss, former Head of the Swiss Delegation, on Sunday, 11 January 2026, after illness.

A devoted servant of military sport, Jean-Jacques Joss played an important role in strengthening Switzerland’s presence within CISM and in promoting sport as a powerful tool for friendship, solidarity and mutual respect among armed forces. As an officer of the Swiss Armed Forces and a committed leader of military sport, he actively contributed to the development of international cooperation through sport.

As Swiss Chief of Delegation from 1998 to 2006, President of the CISM Sports Commission from 2006 to 2012, and Member of the CISM Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012, he dedicated much of his life to the development of military sport, culminating in his key role in the organization of the 6th CISM Military World Games in Mungyeong, Republic of Korea, in 2015.

Known for his professionalism, strong sense of duty and human qualities, he was highly respected and appreciated by athletes, officials and colleagues alike. His engagement went far beyond competition results; he firmly believed in the educational and unifying power of sport within the military community.

In these difficult moments, the entire CISM family extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends and to the Swiss military sports community. His commitment and legacy will remain an integral part of the history and spirit of CISM.
