45th WMC Parachuting - Güssing (AUT) - Update 2

 

 

GÜSSING (AUT) - Thanks to the sunny weather that is currently illuminating Austria, the 45th World Military Parachuting Championship is going on and the competitions are progressing steadily in Guessing, Austria, the host city of this magnificent event. Also of note is the presence of ISC President Mrs. Gillian Rayner who arrived on Saturday and will stay until the closing ceremony.

Several competitions have already come to an end and it is worth noting the splendid performance of the Austrian OR-3 Sebastian Graser, winner of the Male Individual Accuracy Landing event, a competition that was very exciting for the spectators.

 

Graser won the military world title by finishing 3cm ahead of 4 other athletes who had 5cm. These 4 athletes had to settle with tie break jumps and their scores were 0,1,2,3. It is finally the German OR-5 Robin Griesheimer, the winner of 2021, who finishes second with a superb dead center while the Polish Corporal Piotr Kut finishes on the third place of the podium.

Section leader Sebastian Graser thus won Austria's first gold medal since 1986 at the 45th CSIM World Parachuting Championships.

 

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner was the first to congratulate him: "Winning the target competition against 134 jumpers from 25 nations is an enormous sporting achievement and shows the accuracy, professionalism and continuity of our army sportsmen and women and thus of the entire federal army".


Double blow for Austria with the victory of the OR-2 Sophie Grill who wins the Junior Invidiual Accuracy competition in front of the French Private Laura Jaguelin and the German OR-2 Zoe Stoll.

In Female Individual Accuracy Landing, French Chief Warrant Officer Déborah Ferrand became the world military champion ahead of her compatriot Stéphanie Teixier and Moroccan S/C Rajae Baroch, who had to fight in a tie-break for the silver medal.


Finally, it is the German OR-5 Nils Kammer who takes the first place in the Junior Male Individual Accuracy Landing event ahead of his compatriot OR-5 Leon Dieser and the Qatari Sergeant Saleh al-Abidi.


In Female Freefall Style, new French victory with the gold medal of the MDL Léocadier Ollivier de Pury in front of her compatriot ADC Déborah Ferrand with more than 6 points of advance. The bronze medal goes to the German OR-6 Tatjana Gustke. In Junior Female Freefall style, Sophier Grill wins her second title of the competition ahead of Zoe Stoll (GER) and Laura Jaguelin (FRA).

The German Nils Kammer is also a double winner in the Junio Male Freefall Style competition over Leon Dieser and the local OR-2 Urban Michael. In Male Freefall Style, it is the French SCH Jean Vignuales who wins the title at the end of a competition mastered from beginning to end and he in front of Robin Griesheumer, again second, and the German OR-7 Stefan Wiesner, a regular of the competitions and podiums of the CISM!


In the final overall ranking combining Freefall Style and Accuracy Landing, the German Robin Griesheimer wins the title thanks to his unfailing consistency and two second places. He is ahead of two Frenchmen, Jean Vignuales and Corporal Mathieu Guinde, respectively silver and bronze medalists. In the women's category, France made a dazzling performance by placing three athletes on the podium: Déborah Ferrand, author of a first and second place, won the general ranking ahead of her teammates Léocadier Ollivier de Pury and Stéphanie Teixier.

In the junior male category, it is without surprise that the German Nils Kammer, winner of both competitions, wins the gold medal of the general classification in front of his compatriot Leon Dieser while the Austrian Michael Urban takes the third place.


The Austrian Sophie Grill also won the final overall ranking in the Junior Femal category ahead of the German Zoé Stoll and the French Laura Jaguelin.


The competitions will continue on Monday 27th and Tuesday 27th at 4:00 pm will be the first award ceremony (12 medals for accuracy, style and training) without the 6 overall medals that will be given on Wednesday during the closing ceremony.

Tuesday evening will be the gift exchange and gala dinner for the Heads of Missions at the Guessing Castle!
