DIANI (KEN) - Despite some threatening weather and occasional showers, round three of the 16th CISM World Military Golf Championships concluded at the beautiful Diamond Leisure Beach & Golf Resort. Traditionally known as “moving day” in golf circles, the third round lived up to its name, with standout performances on this narrow and punishing course.

India’s Kumar Akash fired the lowest round of the week, a superb 68, to surge to the top of the men’s leaderboard at 3 over par, displacing compatriot Parmar Varoon, who carded a respectable 76 and now trails by five strokes. Greece’s Panagiotis Pantazopoulos is tied for second with Varoon.

In the women’s individual category, France’s Evangeline Prévot and former champion Pauline Stein held their second-round positions at 8 over par and 11 over par respectively, setting the stage for an all-French showdown in the final round.

Amidst the fierce competition, the leading golfers remained composed and focused. The French men’s and women’s teams continued to assert their dominance, fending off close contenders with steady play and establishing a strong hold on the team standings.

The day also witnessed a career-defining CISM moment as Latvia’s Artic Lusis, playing golf for only the second year, recorded the eighth hole-in-one in CISM history on the 12th hole. While it didn’t match the three aces from last year’s event at Victoria Falls, this unforgettable shot will be remembered for years to come. First Lieutenant Lusis described it as “a memorable moment.”

The level of play throughout the third round reflected a final-like intensity, with players demonstrating remarkable precision and professionalism. Every stroke was calculated, every putt deliberate, underscoring their determination to claim the championship title.
