Thailand prepares to host inaugural CISM Military Muaythai Challenge

BANGKOK (THA) – Preparations are in full swing for the first-ever CISM Military Muaythai Challenge, scheduled to take place in Thailand in July 2025. This landmark event will mark the debut of Muaythai in the official CISM competition calendar, spotlighting Thailand’s pivotal role in promoting its national sport on the international military stage.

 

A recent technical visit to Bangkok by Lieutenant Colonel Jan van den Dool, former CISM Sports Director, included a detailed review of the event’s logistics, competition structure, and compliance with CISM standards. The pre-visit aimed to ensure that the Challenge will meet all technical requirements while setting a benchmark for future editions.

 

During the visit, General Suwit Katesri, Deputy Chief of Joint Staff at the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities and developing the sports potential of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. His remarks highlighted the nation’s strategic vision in leveraging sport as a tool for both military preparedness and international cooperation.

The event represents a major step in the integration of Muaythai into the military sports framework, offering service members from around the world a new arena to showcase their martial skills and athleticism. It also underlines CISM’s ongoing commitment to broadening its sports program and fostering international camaraderie through sport.
