Sergeant Vlada Krivenko (RUS) and Captain Eduardo Carrillo Martínez-Osorio (ESP) are the 2021 CISM Athlete of the Year !

SALZBURG (AUT) - After a two-year hiatus due to the onset of the COVID pandemic and the cessation of competitions in 2020, the Athlete of the Year Award was again awarded this year to recognize the best male and female Athletes of the Year 2021. The Board of Directors decided on the winners at its first BoD Meeting in Salzburg from March 28 to April 1.

 

In the women's category, the Russian Sergeant Vlada Krivenko excelled in 2021 in parachuting.

At the 44th World Military Parachuting Championships, the Russian woman achieved a number of top performances, finishing first in the individual overall ranking, first in the team overall ranking, second in team accuracy, first in individual accuracy, first in formation and third in the team overall ranking. In addition, she also took the silver medal in junior individual accuracy at the FAI World Championships 2021 held in Tanay, Russia. A great year for the young Russian skydiver that concludes with a well-deserved title of CISM Athlete of the Year 2021.

Sergeant Vlada Krivenko finished ahead of Private Michaela Pollers (AUT - Judo) and Captain Séverine Eraud (FRA - Cycling) who also had excellent performances in 2021.

 

In the men's category, Spanish Captain Eduardo Carrillo Martínez-Osorio succeeds Master Corporal Pierre Le Corre (FRA), winner in 2019. He is ahead of Captain Bart Lemmen (NED - Cycling) and Sergeant Robin Griesheimer (GER - Parachuting).

Captain Eduardo Carrillo Martínez-Osorio was the author of a superb performance in becoming World Military Champion at the 59th World Military Aeronautical Pentathlon Championship held in Gran Canaria, Spain.

 

With a 7th place in shooting, a 9th place in fencing, a 3rd place in ball and a first place in orienteering, the Spaniard was the most consistent performer throughout the four days of competition at this championship. In addition to his first place in the overall individual ranking, Captain Eduardo Carrillo Martínez-Osorio also won the team title!

The Russian Sergeant Vlada Krivenko and Captain Eduardo Carrillo Martínez-Osorio will receive their awards at the next CISM General Assembly and Congress to be held in Lima, Peru, from May 1 to 9, 2022.
