JESOLO (ITA) - For the fourth year running, the Armando Picchi Stadium in Jesolo will host the Italian segment of the World Para Athletics circuit. This occasion will also mark the premiere of the CISM World Military Championships in Para Athletics.

The 2024 edition of the Italian Open brings Para athletics back to Jesolo as the third stage of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix circuit. From March 22nd to 24th, the Armando Picchi Stadium will welcome 400 athletes representing 20 nations, following on from the previous Grand Prix events in Dubai and Tunis.

This event is a crucial stepping stone towards two major international competitions: the Kobe World Championships and the Paris Paralympics. Hence, the three-day event in Jesolo is pivotal for athletes vying for the azure jersey. Moreover, it's an opportunity for several international Para athletics stars to assess their performance ahead of world and Paralympic events.

Aside from the thrilling sports action, the 2024 edition will be historic for Para athletics. In collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, the event will debut the World Military Championships in Para Athletics, the World Military Para Track & Field Championship. Organized by FISPES in collaboration with CISM, this global event will feature 37 athletes from ten nations. This pioneering project, guided by principles of inclusion and fair competition, sets the stage for future Paralympic competitions within the global military sports program.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Defense, FISPES, and the Italian Paralympic Committee underscores the synergy between national defense and sports bodies. FISPES President Sandrino Porru expresses gratitude to Jesolo for hosting the event.

The 2024 Jesolo Grand Prix promises to be exceptional with the inaugural Military World Championships in Para Athletics. Martina Borin, the Municipality's sports councillor, anticipates a thrilling competition, noting Jesolo's recognition as the European City of Sport for 2025, partly due to its promotion of sports and fair competition through events like the Italian Open.
