LUCERNE (SUI) - The Nordic Center in Goms was the stage for an exhilarating day of biathlon and ski orienteering, where athletes delivered outstanding performances under perfect weather conditions. Spectators lined the course, witnessing breathtaking moments in both disciplines.
France dominated the biathlon mixed relay, securing gold with flawless shooting and a total time of 1:01:37.4 hours. Italy followed closely in second place, clocking 1:02:04.6 hours with just one shooting error. Switzerland, also hitting every target, secured third place with 1:02:25.9 hours, ensuring an all-Alpine podium.
Bulgaria’s Antoniya Grigorova delivered a stellar performance, taking gold in the women’s ski orienteering sprint race with a time of 12:49 minutes. Sweden’s Evelina Wickbom followed just one second behind (12:50 minutes) in a dramatic finish, while Estonia’s Daisy Kudre-Schnyder claimed third place with 13:05 minutes. Bulgaria celebrated another victory in the men’s event, with Stanimir Belomazhev taking first place in 11:02 minutes. Estonia’s Olle Ilmar Jaama secured silver with 11:11 minutes, while Sweden’s Rasmus Wickbom earned bronze in 11:24 minutes. Switzerland’s Severin Müller, the best-placed home athlete, finished fifth with 12:12 minutes.
The competition was honored by the presence of high-ranking officials, including Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, CISM Secretary General. Representing the Swiss military, Corps Commander Hans-Peter Walser and Division Commander Germaine Seewer, President of the Organizing Committee, also attended. Their presence underscored the significance of the Winter Military World Games in fostering international military cooperation and sporting excellence.
