FORTALEZA / GARANHUNS (BRA) – Military personnel of the Brazilian Army celebrated the International Day of Military Sports 2026 by organizing several Peace Runs across the country, bringing together soldiers from different units in activities promoting health, cohesion and the universal values of friendship and solidarity through sport.
In Fortaleza, soldiers gathered at sunrise on 3 March along the famous Beira-Mar waterfront for a Peace Run organized by the 10th Military Region of the Brazilian Army. The event brought together personnel from several military units, including members of the 52nd Telematics Center, highlighting the importance of discipline, cooperation and physical readiness within the armed forces.
Set against one of the most iconic landscapes of the Ceará capital, the run offered a moment of integration and sporting spirit while reinforcing the values of peace and solidarity. Residents and visitors along the waterfront were able to witness the activity, which also served as an opportunity for the Brazilian Army to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle in a public setting.

The Peace Run has become a long-standing tradition within armed forces around the world and forms part of the activities promoted annually by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). Through sport, the initiative aims to spread a culture of peace while strengthening cooperation, mutual respect and friendship among military personnel.
A similar event took place a few days earlier in Garanhuns, in the state of Pernambuco, where the 71st Motorized Infantry Battalion organized its own Peace Run on 26 February. Held under the battalion’s motto “Readiness and Operational Capability,” the activity gathered soldiers and invited participants to celebrate the values promoted by CISM and the spirit of military camaraderie.
Beyond the physical challenge, the event emphasized teamwork, discipline and the importance of maintaining operational readiness. Collective sports activities such as the Peace Run help strengthen morale within military units while reinforcing the sense of unity and cooperation among service members.

In both cities, the initiative also served as a bridge between the armed forces and the local population. By taking place in public spaces, the Peace Run allowed citizens to observe and share in the event, highlighting the commitment of the Brazilian Army to promoting healthy lifestyles, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Across Brazil, the Peace Run remains a powerful symbol of how sport can unite soldiers and communities while embodying the CISM motto: Friendship through Sport.
