International Judo Federation appoints Colonel Arman Abeuov as Head of the Military Commission

 

 

BRUSSELS (BEL) – The International Judo Federation (IJF) has officially announced the appointment of Colonel Arman Abeuov as Head of the IJF Military Commission, operating under the umbrella of the IJF Military and Police Commission.

 

The appointment marks another important step in strengthening cooperation between the international judo community and military sport institutions worldwide. The IJF Military Commission plays a key role in promoting and supervising the development of judo within armed forces and police structures, while reinforcing the educational, disciplinary and social values carried by the sport.

 

Based in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel Abeuov currently serves as Chairperson of the Sports Committee of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Central Sports Club, a position he has held since May 2023. He also serves as Chief of Delegation of Kazakhstan to the International Military Sports Council (CISM), further strengthening the connection between international judo and military sport.

 

In his current role, he oversees the development of physical training and sport within the Kazakh armed forces, including the preparation of military athletes for national and international competitions, among them events organized by CISM. His responsibilities also include the promotion of military applied sports and initiatives encouraging youth engagement through sport and military service.

 

IJF President Marius Vizer welcomed the appointment, highlighting the importance of Colonel Abeuov’s experience and commitment to the sport. “Colonel Arman Abeuov represents the values that judo can bring to military and public service institutions around the world. His experience, leadership and lifelong dedication to judo will be an important asset for the continued development of our Military and Police Commission activities,” said Mr Vizer.

Beyond his administrative expertise, Colonel Abeuov is also an accomplished judoka. Holder of the title “Master of Sports International Class” in judo, he is an Asian champion, ten-time champion of Kazakhstan and winner of the Veterans World Judo Championships held in Abu Dhabi in 2022 and Las Vegas in 2024.

 

His academic background combines law, economics and military sports education, with degrees in jurisprudence, finance and military physical training obtained through leading institutions in Kazakhstan, including the National Defense University of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

 

Through this appointment, the IJF continues to reinforce the role of judo as a powerful educational and social tool within service institutions worldwide, promoting values such as respect, discipline, courage and solidarity far beyond competition.

 

The International Military Sports Council warmly congratulates Colonel Arman Abeuov on his appointment and looks forward to continued cooperation with the International Judo Federation in promoting military sport and the values of “Friendship through Sport.”
