Monaco hosts key opening meetings of the 81st CISM General Assembly and Congress

MONACO (MON) – The 81st CISM General Assembly and Congress officially got underway in Monaco with three days of intensive preparatory work, bringing together CISM leadership, commissions and member nation representatives to shape the strategic and operational direction of the organization.

The opening phase, held from 1 to 3 May 2026, focused on coordination, governance and forward planning, laying solid foundations ahead of the official ceremony and institutional highlights scheduled for the week.

Friday, 1 May, marked the beginning of activities with a preparatory meeting between CISM Headquarters and the local organizing committee (GALOC). This important coordination session ensured that all operational, logistical and protocol aspects were fully aligned, confirming Monaco’s readiness to host the global military sport community.

On Saturday, 2 May, attention turned to the work of CISM’s sports and institutional structures. The morning was dedicated to the meeting of the Presidents of CISM Sports Committees (PCSC), a key platform to review sport-specific matters and ensure alignment across disciplines.

Throughout the afternoon, multiple commissions convened in parallel sessions, reflecting the breadth of CISM’s activities. Strategic orientations, sport development, financial oversight and scientific support were addressed during meetings of the Strategy, Sports, Finance and Budget, and Sports Science Commissions.

This was followed by further sessions involving the Regulations Commission, Solidarity Commission, Women in CISM Commission and the Parasport Working Group, highlighting CISM’s continued commitment to governance, inclusivity and development across all areas.

Sunday, 3 May, saw the convening of the first session of the CISM Board of Directors Meeting 2026/2, a central moment in the decision-making process of the organization. Throughout the day, the Board addressed a comprehensive agenda covering institutional reports, financial matters, strategic planning and the development of CISM activities.

As outlined in the official agenda, discussions included reports from the CISM President and Secretary General, continental updates, financial results and audit reports, as well as contributions from key commissions. Strategic topics such as the CISM Strategic Plan 2024–2028, the sports calendar and long-term planning were also reviewed.

The Board additionally examined the status of major upcoming events, including the 8th CISM Military World Summer Games 2027, alongside broader developments within CISM Games and academic initiatives. The first session concluded with a closing address by the CISM President, marking the end of a productive day of discussions.

The second session of the Board of Directors Meeting 2026/2 is scheduled to take place on 7 May, ensuring continuity in the governance process throughout the General Assembly.

In the evening of 3 May, participants gathered for a welcome briefing, providing delegations with key information ahead of the official opening and reinforcing the spirit of unity among the CISM family.

Looking ahead, Monday, 4 May, will mark the formal launch of the 81st CISM General Assembly and Congress with the Opening Ceremony, followed by the Peace and Sport Conference and the traditional official photo. The afternoon will feature continental meetings bringing together Africa, Europe, Asia and America, before the official opening cocktail reception in the evening.

As Monaco hosts this major institutional gathering, the first days have already demonstrated strong engagement and a shared commitment to advancing military sport worldwide under the banner of “Friendship through Sport.”
