65th WMC Military Pentathlon – Wiener Neustadt (AUT) – Final Day



WIENER NEUSTADT (AUT) – The 65th WMC Military Pentathlon was officially closed on August 1 in Wiener Neustadt with the Obstacle Relay and the Closing Ceremony of the event. Due to the heavy rain on Wiener Neustadt and the risks of injury, the organizers decided to stop the competition after the first round. The Chinese delegation won the Obstacle Run Women Relay ahead of Denmark and Sweden while Algeria won the male event ahead of Austria and Venezuela.



Right after this last sport event, the 115 athletes (81 male and 34 female) from 24 nations and the following personalities attended the Closing Ceremony of the event: Colonel Dirk Schwede, CISM Board of Directors Member, VP Europe and Official CISM Representative for this event; Brigadier-General Gernot Gasser, Chief of Delegation of Austria to CISM; Lieutenant-Colonel Alessandro Trono, PCSC Military Pentathlon; General-Major Prohnagl, Commander of the Military Academy - CISM Austria; Magist Ingo Panosky, Austrian Sports Minister representative; Magist Klaus Schneeberger, Wiener  Neustadt Mayor; local and international high authorities as well as fans and local population.



In his speech, the Colonel Dirk Schwede’s congratulated all the participants of the event and thanked the Austrian Armed Forces, the local Organizing Committee, the Military Academy representatives for the organization of the event. No doubt this event will be remembered by all the participating nations.

Finally, the CISM Flag was handed over to the Chinese delegation which will host the next WMC Military Pentathlon in the framework of the 7th CISM World Summer Games 2019 in Wuhan.
