46th WMC Modern Pentathlon – Budapest (HUN) - Day 3

 

 

Russia dominates the women’s finals at the 46th WMC Modern Pentathlon

 

BUDAPEST (HUN) - In presence of Brigadier Général Jozsef Spisjak, Deputy Commander of Augmentation preparation & training command and Kovács Sarolta who were the special guests of the day, Ekaterina Khuraskina of Russia maintained her impressive record at the CISM Military World Championships with a gold medal in the Women’s Individual event of the 46th instalment in Budapest (HUN).

Khuraskina (RUS) has stood on the podium every year since 2015, winning silver on two occasions. She won gold in 2016 in Warendorf (GER) and regained her title in Hungary after an intense battle with a number of elite athletes including two former world pentathlon champions.

 

 

Sarolta Kovacs (HUN), gold medallist at the 2016 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships, performed well with home advantage and claimed the silver medal.

Anna Maliszewska of Poland went one better than her 4th place of 2017 as she took home the bronze medal on the opening day of the championships (September 27-29).

It was an intriguing day of competition, and Gulnaz Gubaydullina of Russia, the 2017 world pentathlon champion, topped the standings in Swimming (2:06.41) and Laser Run (12:09).

 

 

A strong performance in Fencing was key to the overall success of her compatriot Khuraskina (RUS), who scored an exceptional 31V/6D.

Isabela Abreu (BRA) was the strongest performer in the Riding event.

The Russian team, composed of Ekaterina Khuraskina, Guinaz Gubaydullina and Aise Fakhrutdinova, also won the team final ranking ahead of Lithuania (Tamasauskaite, Serapinaite and Venckauskaite) and Italia (Frezza, Tognetti, Lopez Maria), respectively silver and bronze medallists.

The championships continue on September 28 with the Men’s Individual before the concluding Mixed Relay on September 29. A livestream of all disciplines will be available on CISM Hungary's website, for final days.See you today for the men’s final!
