PUNTA CANA (DOM) - The CISM Board of Directors (BoD) Meeting 2024 is currently taking place in the picturesque setting of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, bringing together CISM’s leaders and representatives from its Member Nations. The meeting kicked off on Wednesday, November 6, with an Opening Ceremony, an Official Photo session, and the first session of the meeting. During the event, a press conference was held, allowing local journalists to engage with key figures, including CISM President Colonel Nilton Rolim, Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, and Major-General Délio Buenaventura Colón Rosario, CISM Vice President Americas, Brigadier General Jose Manuel Duran Infante, Dominican Republic Armed Forces Sports Conferece President and Chief of Dominican Republic Delegation to CISM. This provided an opportunity for the press to pose questions about the future of CISM and its activities.

The three-days meetings were attended by CISM President Colonel Nilton Rolim, CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, CISM Treasurer General Colonel Sven Ferré, and several Board of Directors members.

The first session of the CISM Board of Directors (BoD) Meeting 2024, held on Wednesday, November 6, set the tone for what is proving to be a highly productive gathering. The session commenced with a Welcome Address from CISM President Colonel Nilton Rolim, who expressed gratitude for the commitment of all attendees and underscored the significance of this meeting in advancing CISM’s goals.

The session then moved to the CISM Authorities Reports, where the CISM President’s Communication and the Secretary-General’s Report were presented, providing an overview of the current state of affairs, ongoing projects, and key initiatives. Following this, the Continental Reports from the Vice Presidents of the Americas, Asia, and Europe were discussed, giving the Board insight into regional developments and challenges that could shape CISM’s global strategy.

The final part of the first session focused on the CISM Commissions Reports, including updates from the Regulations Commission, Strategy Commission, Solidarity Commission, Sports Commission, Finance and Budget Commission, and the Women in CISM Commission. These reports were crucial in outlining the work each commission has undertaken, the challenges they have encountered, and the steps taken to align their efforts with the broader goals of CISM.

Overall, the first session was a comprehensive review of CISM’s ongoing work across various dimensions—governance, strategy, finances, and sport—which will set the stage for further discussions in the subsequent sessions.

On Thursday, November 7, the second session continued with an in-depth discussion on various CISM strategic and sports policies. The session addressed key topics such as updates to the strategy plan, the amendment of CISM regulations, and the approval of new events for the sports calendar for 2024-2026. There was also a focus on the upcoming CISM Winter Games in 2025, and discussions were held on further strengthening the regulations on doping and events organization rules.

On Friday November 8, the third and final session of the meeting concluded with further critical discussions, including updates on CISM academic initiatives and preparations for the CISM International Symposium in Abu Dhabi in 2025. A Question & Answer session followed with the CISM Directors based on their provided reports, allowing the Board members to engage in dialogue, ask questions, and exchange ideas to ensure all topics were fully explored.

In his closing speech, the CISM President extended his heartfelt thanks to all participants for their valuable contributions, which will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of CISM. He also expressed his appreciation for the exceptional organization of the event by the Local Organizing Committee and Major-General Délio Buenaventura Colón Rosario, who played a key role in hosting the meeting in Punta Cana.

The discussions and decisions made during the BoD meeting were deemed highly productive, and President Rolim emphasized that the collaboration and dedication of all participants will help propel CISM forward, ensuring its continued success in the years to come.

As the BoD meeting draws to a close, CISM activities will continue with the final President of CISM Sports Committee Meeting, scheduled for November 10 and 11.
