
DOHA (QAT) - The 47th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship officially opened this Saturday at Umm Al-Shokhot Airfield in Doha, marking the beginning of a major international gathering of military skydivers hosted by the Qatar Air Sports Committee under the Joint Special Forces. The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, accompanied by H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces, Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, CISM Secretary General. Senior commanders, dignitaries and heads of delegations from participating countries also attended the ceremony.

This year’s championship welcomes 320 male and female skydivers representing 30 countries, including Algeria, Germany, Austria, Bahrain, the United States, Belgium, Brazil, Russia, China, South Korea, Denmark, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, France, Egypt, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Morocco, Oman, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Tunisia, Turkey and host nation Qatar. Slovakia is also present to receive the CISM flag for the next edition. The 236 registered athletes from 29 nations will compete in the disciplines of Style, Accuracy Landing and Formation Skydiving (4-Way), with all delegations arriving in Doha ahead of the start of competition to begin their training sessions on site.
The opening ceremony featured an aerial display by the Qatar Canopy Formation Demonstration Team and officially launched the championship under the CISM motto “Friendship Through Sport”.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Saeed Al Mansouri, Vice Chairman of the Qatar Air Sports Committee, welcomed the participants and noted that hosting this championship represents an important step for the development of air sports in Qatar. He highlighted the smooth arrival and immediate preparations of all teams, praising the efforts of the organizing committee and its subcommittees for their excellent coordination and the high level of readiness achieved to host this world-class military sports event.
The Supreme Organizing Committee, chaired by Brigadier General Mohammed bin Zayed Al Otaibi, confirmed that all operational, logistical and technical arrangements for the championship have been completed. The committee has mobilized its expertise to ensure that the competition meets the highest international standards and reflects Qatar’s status as a leading sporting destination.

A joint technical meeting between CISM and the Qatar Air Sports Committee took place on Thursday at Umm Al-Shokhot Airfield and covered all technical and refereeing matters, registration procedures, competition instructions, doping control requirements and safety protocols. Inspection tours were also conducted throughout the venue, including full rehearsals of the opening ceremony and preparations for the opening of the Air Sports Museum, presented as one of the special features of CISM Qatar 2025.
