53th WMC Shooting – Lahore (PAK) – Competition Day 4, 5, 6 and Closing Ceremony

LAHORE (PAK) - The last day of competition of the 53rd World Military Shooting Championship took place on 9 October 2021 with the Skeet Mixed Team Event.
The competition day started in the morning with 7 teams and 14 athletes participating in the event.

 

And Russia managed to clinch the last gold medal of the event with a military world title for Major Aleksei Skorogogatov and Warrant Officer Anastasia Krakhmaleva, who already took the gold medal in the Trap Mixed Team Event.

They finished once again in first place in the final ranking with a total of 145 points ahead of the Pakistani pair of L/MAR Asif Mehmood and Lieutenant Komal Shehzadi (123 points) while a second Pakistani team of MAR-I Zeeshan and Captain Narina Kausar finished on the third step of the podium with a total of 107 points.

 

The individual finals of the Skeet Events took place on 8 October and the Russian domination was put to the test.

 

In the women's competition, OR1 Lucie Anastassiou won gold with a total of 57 points ahead of Russian Warrant Officer Anastasia Krakhmaleva (47 points). Pakistani Lieutenant Komal Shahzadi beat her compatriot Captain Narina Kausar to the bronze medal with a total of 34 points.

The men's individual competition was dominated by Pakistani military athletes, much to the delight of local spectators. Indeed, the Pakistani delegation achieved a magnificent performance by placing three athletes on the podium of the Men's Individual Skeet. L/MAR Asif Mehmood, who was outstanding throughout the competition, won the title of World Military Champion with a total of 49 points, two points ahead of silver medallist and compatriot PO Waheed Alam (47 points). MAR-I completed the podium with a total of 40 points!

Considering the individual performances of its athletes, it is no surprise that Pakistan (L/MAR Asif Mehmood, MAR-I Zeeshan, PO Waheed Alam) also wins the gold medal in the men's Skeet team competition ahead of Sri Lanka (Cpl Prasad Madushanka, F/Sgt Sandakelum Ranasinghe and Sqn Ldr Manoj Wijewickrama) and Palestine (Capt Islam O. M. Khatatba, Ssgt Abdallah S.M. Anteer, W/O Osama N.A. Thiab).

 

 

The 53rd World Military Shooting Championship ended with the Closing Ceremony which took place in presence of the Lieutenant-General Syed Asim Munir; Rear Admiral Abdul Basit Butt, Chief of Delegation of Pakistan to CISM; Brigadier-General Amal Khalife, Official CISM Representative of the Event and Chief of Delegation of Palestine to CISM; and the Chiefs of Mission of France, Kenya, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Sri Lanka.

“The event is coming to an end and I can tell you with certainty that it has been an exceptional competition, full of demonstrations of cooperation, camaraderie and above all, in my opinion, friendship.”, declared Brigadier-General Amal Khalife.

 

"The organisation of such a championship would not have been possible without our military athletes, the officials and the people who worked behind the scenes and contributed their time and effort and talent to make this event a success. The Lahore Garrison Shooting Gallery is certainly one of the best facilities in the world, run by dedicated professionals. Therefore, I would also like to thank the organising committee who did an excellent job.”, she added.
