42nd WMC Parachuting – Szolnok (HUN) - Day 1

SZOLNOK (HUN) – The 42nd WMC Parachuting started yesterday, August 10, with the Opening Ceremony and the first trainings in Szolnok, Hungary. More than 250 participants (190 male athletes and 60 female athletes) from 37 participating countries (and 8 countries with referees)  gathered for the Opening Ceremony that was held on János Hild Square in presence of Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, CISM Secretary General and Official CISM Representative for this event; Colonel Gernot Rittenschober, PCSC Parachuting; Brigadier General Läszlo Szabo, Chairman of the Organizing Committee; Mr. Ferenc Szalay, Szolnok Mayor; Colonel Tarmàs Bali PhD, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Lieutenant-Colonel Zoltan Eleki, Chief of Delegation of Hungary to CISM, local and international high authorities as well as local fans.

In speech, Brigadier General Läszlo Szabo declared: “The organization of a competition of this magnitude is a long and complex process that our colleagues have been pursuing ever since November 2017. The competition’s technical, logistical, and infrastructural and security-related tasks could only be accomplished by the co-operation of several HDF units, numerous foreign nations and the city of Szolnok.”

He also added: “A special emphasis should be placed on Slovenia’s contribution, which grants aircraft to the competition, Germany, which provides manning and technical assistance to the Manifest, and the Czech Republic, which provides ‒ along with Germany ‒ the technical background for style evaluation. Likewise, we must thank Colonel Gernot Rittenschober (CISM PCSC Parachuting), who has tirelessly advised our Organization Committee on the championship related issues. Efforts and enthusiastic, persistent work always bear fruit. We hope that you will feel this fantastic atmosphere in the forthcoming days in respect that you can participate in a joyful and problem-free competition.”

The Opening Ceremony was followed by the Preliminary Meeting and the first trainings that took place in optimal conditions (MI14 helicopters and two DZ (drop zones), one for Accuracy and Formation and the other for Formation and style)
