Poland and Turkey celebrate gold at the 49th WMC Modern Pentathlon in Drzonków

DRZONKÓW (POL) – The 49th CISM World Military Modern Pentathlon Championship continued with thrilling finals in the Obstacle Laser Run (OLR), as the men’s competition concluded yesterday, September 25, and the women’s finals took place today.

 

In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Poland’s Małgorzata Karbownik delivered a remarkable performance to secure the gold medal in the women’s final. Crossing the line with a total of 933 points, she overcame strong competition from Turkey’s Ilke Özyüksel, who claimed silver with 926 points, and Egypt’s promising young athlete Jana Attia, who took bronze with 910 points.

The men’s competition, held one day earlier, saw an impressive victory for Kıvanç Taşyaran of Turkey, who scored 1036 points to earn the gold medal. He narrowly edged out Poland’s Daniel Lawrynowicz (1033 points) and France’s Jean-Baptiste Mourcia (1030 points), who completed the podium after a tight contest that kept the audience on edge until the finish.

 

The finals once again highlighted the depth and diversity of talent in CISM competitions, with athletes from across Europe, Africa, and South America making their mark. The mix of seasoned champions and emerging young athletes reflects the dynamic growth of military pentathlon within the CISM community.

With both men’s and women’s OLR champions now crowned, the Drzonków championship continues to embody CISM’s motto of “Friendship through Sport”, bringing nations together through high-level competition and camaraderie.
